Winner of People s Choice at the Spring Show: I sincerely apologize to Dixie Shoemaker; in the May newsletter awards list I inadvertently left out her winning of the People s Choice Award at the 2016 WAL Spring Show. Congratulations to Dixie for her award winning entry Sweetie Face, shown at left. Dixie said this dog was one in a group of a family s pets and she painted it right before the Spring Show. Sweetie Face is Dixie s third People s Choice winner in a row! Past Meeting: The May meeting presenter was Todd Camp, Assistant Arts Administrator of the Columbus Cultural Arts Center and visual artist. Todd gave a fun and informative presentation on finishing and selling your art. See the minutes for an excellent breakdown on the main points of Todd s presentation. Meeting called to order @ 6:30 pm/ Attendees welcomed by Terri Ruh, President Attendee sign- in form circulated 20 members present BUSINESS MEETING Last month s meeting minutes by Norma Fiala approved by Ted Chaney Treasurer s Report Kathy Smithson Current account balance is $911.72 with two recent checks for $200 Balance around $700 Committee Reports Art in Public Places Judi Heston o Quest show runs June through July o Take in is June 1 st. o Another Quest show planned for Nov. and Dec. o Suggested that artists promote themselves by including a bio next to painting Spring Show Ted Chaney, Committee Chair o Take down is this coming Sunday from 1 6 pm o Terri thanked all who participated, those that brought refreshments, and Kathy Smithson for providing music during the reception o Terri asked if the show support itself. o Concern that ribbons posted next to paintings possibly could be stolen so it was suggested that next year a photo is taken of the ribbon and placed next to the painting instead of the actual ribbon. Paint out Chair Mary Pat has lined up a paint out at Blendon Woods for Sept. 18, 2016 so no chair is needed for next year. Trip Chair Kathy Smithson graciously volunteered, Helen Cho will assist. Refreshment Coordinator Chair Needed ANNOUNCEMENTS John Cameron spoke regarding upcoming opportunities to show art: Arts Alley at 4 th Friday coming up this week. Folks may still join in. If it rains, it will be canceled. Saturday, June 4 th Westival (formerly the Community Concert Band and Arts Festival) o Will feature local bands and artists o Artists may participate by displaying and selling work with other artists for $10 or paying $30 for their own booth. o This is the second year. o 12 9 pm o There will be food trucks and lots of shade. o Parking is available at Otterbein or Astronaut Grove. o Last year Kathy Smithson sold about $40 of her art. o John indicated that more promotion including ads in publications has been done for this year s event. Save the Date for a Paint-Out! We have a Paint-Out scheduled at Blendon Woods on Sunday, September 18, from 2-5pm. We have the opportunity to do Plein Air as a group at the park. Details will be forthcoming. Art Instruction: John Cameron offers a watercolor painting class titled Watercolor Class for Beginners and Beyond at the Sunbear Studio and Gallery, in Alexandria, Ohio. The type of student we are seeking would be one interested in rigorous, serious structured training is classical realism, ages 18, adults and seniors, professional and non-professionals. We offer full and part-time atelier training as well as ongoing monthly classes. Our full and part-time study curriculum runs from Fall through Spring.
