About YWCA Greater Los Angeles: Who We Are: YWCA Greater Los Angeles is a nonprofit organization established in 1894 as a women s membership movement, built on the mission of eliminating racism and empowering women. Today, YWCA Greater Los Angeles embraces the hallmark initiatives on which it was founded and has expanded its programming and services to address the emerging and pressing needs of the people of Greater Los Angeles. We do that through our four signature programs including Child Development & Infant Learning Centers; Job Corps / Career Training Academy; Sexual Assault Crisis Services; and, Senior Services. YWCA Greater Los Angeles celebrates 120 years of community service to the people of Greater Los Angeles. We remain committed to empowerment for women, the elimination of racism, economic security for all, and to supporting the big dreams and full potential of all those we serve. Who We Serve: YWCA Greater Los Angeles serves nearly 100,000 individuals on an annual basis. Most of our participants are low income and represent various ethnic backgrounds, faiths, age groups and genders. Where We Are Going: In recent years, YWCA Greater Los Angeles completed four major capital projects: the Union Pacific Empowerment Center in East Los Angeles in 2009, the Urban Campus in Downtown Los Angeles in 2012, the Osborne Community Center, partnering with Related/Osborne Street Development Company, which provides services to families and seniors in Sylmar, and, the Supervisor Gloria Molina Community Empowerment Center in Walnut Park on June 14, 2014. Currently, YWCA Greater Los Angeles will be opening its Digital Learning Academy, located at the historic Studio Club in Hollywood in March 2015. This, our newest initiative in Workforce Development, is an innovative partnership with Xerox Corporation created to address the digital skills gap in today s labor force. featuring credentialed curriculum based on Xerox s School to Career program.
