Clint Hill On November 19, 2018, Governor Doug Burgum presented retired United States Secret Service Agent Clint Hill with the North Dakota Theodore Roosevelt Roughrider Award at a ceremony in Hill s hometown of Washburn. The Roughrider Award is the state s highest commendation for its citizens. Clint Hill is the 44th recipient of the award. Clint Hill is most notably known for the courageous actions he took on November 22, 1963, in Dallas, Texas during the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. Hill leapt on the back of the presidential limousine as the shots were fired to shield the President and First Lady. He is credited with saving the life of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy. Past President Darin Ferderer was one of several who wrote a letter to the selection committee to nominate Hill for the award. Governor Doug Burgum, Secretary of State Al Jaeger, and State Historical Society Director Claudia Berg comprise the members of the selection committee. North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem and Joe Scargill, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Secret Service s Minneapolis Field Office also addressed Hill at the ceremony. The Theodore Roosevelt Roughrider Award recognizes present and former North Dakotans who have been influenced by the state in achieving national recognition in their fields of endeavor, thereby reflecting credit and honor upon North Dakota and its citizens. Membership Dues Reminder: Membership dues will be increasing from $30 to $40 annually, effective January 1, 2019. Message from the NDPOA 4th Vice President: As 2018 draws to a close, I have been reflecting on the past year. As the newest member of the board, I am appreciative of the hard work that previous boards have done to ensure the viability of our association. Moving forward, the board will continue to be transparent and responsive to our membership. 2019 promises to be a busy year, beginning with the 66th North Dakota Legislative Assembly convening in Bismarck on January 3rd. We have an excellent group of members who have volunteered to serve on the NDPOA Legislative Committee, and will monitor legislation that is of interest to the law enforcement community. The Grand Forks Host Committee is off to a fantastic start on the planning of the 2019 conference, which will be held August 13-16 at the Canad Inn. Plan now to join us, as the conference is a great opportunity to attend training, engage in a little friendly competition, and reconnect with friends and colleagues from across the state. Thank you for the opportunity to serve you as a member of the board. Merry Christmas to you and your families as we head into the holiday season.
