WEST ALLEGHENY SCHOOL DISTRICT MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE BOARD OF SCHOOL DIRECTORS 1. Call to Order / Pledge of Allegiance The West Allegheny Board of School Directors met in regular session on Wednesday,, in the District Office Board Room located at Wilson Elementary School. The President, Mrs. Debbie Mirich, presided. The meeting was called to order at 7:12 p.m., followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. 2. Roll Call of Directors Present - Debbie Mirich President Mark Rosen Vice President Edward Faux Tracy Kosis James McCarthy Robert Ostrander Ronald Pasic Tracy Pustover Absent - Also Present - George Bartha Mr. William Andrews, Solicitor Dr. Jerri Lynn Lippert, Superintendent Dr. Christopher Shattuck, Assistant Superintendent Dr. Chris Assetta, Assistant to the Superintendent George M. Safin, Business Manager Alyssa Athanas, Board Secretary Also other staff members and parents Mrs. Mirich announced that the Board met in executive session prior to tonight s meeting as well as August 9 th, in regards to personnel and legal. 3. Public Comment 4. Approval of Minutes There were no public comments. 4.1 The board secretary previously distributed copies of the minutes from the July 19, 2017 meeting to the Board. On a motion by Mr. Faux, seconded by Mrs. Kosis, and unanimously carried, it was moved to approve the minutes as distributed. 5. Treasurer s Report 5.1 The treasurer s report was read by Mr. George Safin, Business Manager, and accepted by the board indicating a balance on July 31, 2017 of $19,974,077.92.

Personnel Dr. Lippert reported that the teachers were welcomed back and they are anxiously awaiting for students to return on Tuesday, August 22 nd. Mrs. Mirich reported on the return of teachers. She thanked the Administration for setting up an exciting Teacher In-service. No unfinished business this month. Mrs. Mirich announced that the Board will abbreviate a portion of the agenda. The Personnel portion of the Committee report was presented by Mrs. Kosis: On a motion by Mrs. Kosis, seconded by Mr. Rosen, and unanimously carried, it was moved to approve items 12.1 and 12.2 on the Personnel agenda. 12.1 Approving Leigh Ann Dunway as a Donaldson Class IV-B Lunch aide effective August 22, 2017. Salary - $16.67/hour 12.2 Approving Jodie Messner as a Wilson Class IV-B Lunch aide effective August 22, 2017. Salary - $16.67/hour 12.3 On a motion by Mrs. Kosis, seconded by Mr. Pasic, and on a roll call vote, it was moved to approve the list of 2017-2018 WAVA staff as presented. Roll Call Vote: Ayes: 7 Nays: 0 Abstention: 1 Absent: 1 Mr. Faux abstained due to a conflict of interest. On a motion by Mrs. Kosis, seconded by Mr. Pasic, and unanimously carried, it was moved to approve items 12.4 and 12.9 on the Personnel agenda. 12.4 Approving the list of professional and support substitutes as presented.
12.5 Recognizing a final rating of SATISFACTORY for the individuals listed below, after completing three satisfactory years of service with the District, awarding tenure and a professional contract. Sepesy Samantha Grabner, Kennan Minsinger, Jacob Barney, Rebecca Shuck, Leah Meinert, Kateri Tissue, Kristina 12.6 Approving continuing an unpaid medical leave of absence for John Lacek, Class I-C custodian at the Middle School, from August 15, 2017 through November 15, 2017. 12.7 Approving a family medical leave of absence for Brittney Counihan, Wilson art teacher, beginning not to exceed 60 days. 12.8 Approving the resignation of Jaime Mahramas, half time Donaldson/Middle School music teacher, effective August 15, 2017. 12.9 Approving Betsy Weber as a Class V bus aide effective August 22, 2017. Salary - $16.67/hour. 12.10 On a motion by Mrs. Kosis, seconded by Mr. McCarthy and on a roll call vote, it was moved to approve Kim Niedbala as a Class III paraprofessional at Wilson Elementary effective August 17, 2017. Salary - $17.94/hour. Roll Call Vote: Ayes: 6 Nays: 2 Abstention: 0 Absent: 1 Mr. Faux and Mr. Pasic voted no. 12.11 On a motion by Mrs. Kosis, seconded by Mr. Pasic, and unanimously carried, it was moved to approve Rose Ourada as a Class V bus aide effective August 22, 2017. Salary - $16.67/hour. 13. Property & Supply Transportation The Property & Supply - Transportation portion of the Committee report was presented by Mr. Faux: On a motion by Mr. Faux, seconded by Mrs. Kosis, and unanimously carried, it was moved to approve item 13.1 on the Property & Supply - Transportation agenda. 13.1 Approving the list of bus drivers for the 2017-18 school year. All requirements have been met. 14. Finance The Finance portion of the Committee report was presented by Mr. Pasic:
On a motion by Mr. Pasic, seconded by Mrs. Kosis, and unanimously carried, it was moved to approve items 14.1 through 14.4 on the Finance agenda. 14.1 Approving the payment of bills from the General Fund as per list presented to the Board Members. 14.2 Approving the Construction Fund and Construction Treasurer's Reports as presented to the Board Members. 14.3 Accepting July Activity Reports as presented to the Board Members. 14.4 Approving the following tax compromise requests in accordance with the attached information for parcels 8000-T-2089 and 8000-T-2180, as recommended by the solicitor. This allows the solicitor to take the appropriate legal steps to pursue the completion of these requests. 15. Policy & Programs No report 16. Athletics & Activities The Athletics & Activities portion of the Committee report was presented by Mr. Ostrander: 16.1 On a motion by Mr. Ostrander, seconded by Mrs. Kosis, and unanimously carried, it was moved to approve Mara Greer as the Musical Director of the 2017-18 school year at a salary of $4,404.99. 17. Federal Programs & Legislation Dr. Assetta reported on planning for the upcoming year. 18. West Allegheny Foundation Mrs. Mirich reported that they received the grant applications. Also, a Dine & Donate fundraiser will be held at Cadillac Ranch on August 17 th. 23. Adjournment Dr. Shattuck and Mrs. Pustover reported that the first meeting of the year will be held on September 6 th. The poster contest will be rolled out again at the beginning of the school year. No new business. Meghan McGinnis, North Fayette Township, thanked the Board for volunteering their time. She also voiced her concerns regarding class sizes at Wilson and the number of aides. Dr. Lippert and Dr. Shattuck responded. Lori Lucas, Findlay Township, voiced her concerns regarding class sizes. Dr. Lippert responded.
