Proclamation WHEREAS, the red ribbon was chosen as a symbol commemorating the work of Enrique Kiki Camarena, a Drug Enforcement Administration agent, who was murdered in the line of duty and has come to represent the belief that one person CAN make a difference; and WHEREAS, the Red Ribbon Campaign was established by Congress in 1988 to promote this belief and encourage a drug-free lifestyle and involvement in drug prevention efforts; and; WHEREAS, October 22 31, 2018, has been designated National Red Ribbon Week calling on all Americans to show their support for a drug-free state by wearing a red ribbon and participating in drug-free activities during that week: WHEREAS, success will not occur overnight, our patience and continued commitment to drug education and prevention are imperative; and NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that we, do hereby proclaim October 22 31, 2018 as RED RIBBON WEEK in this county and encourage all citizens to join the rest of the state in promoting the Red Ribbon Celebration and a drug-free America. WHEREAS, Reno County Board of Commissioners, along with Reno County Communities That Care, value prevention for the health and safety of all our citizens; and; WHEREAS, substances abuse is particularly damaging to one of our most valuable resources, our children, and a contributing factor in the three leading causes of death for teenagers accidents, homicides, and suicides; and; WHEREAS, the goal of Red Ribbon Week is to involve families, schools, businesses, churches, law enforcement agencies and service organizations in all aspects of this campaign and establish an atmosphere that supports awareness, education and on-going initiatives to prevent illegal drug use, and; WHEREAS, the Red Ribbon Week Campaign theme promotes family and individual responsibilities for living healthy, drug-free lifestyles, without illegal drugs or the illegal use of legal drugs, and; IN WITNESS WHEREOF, WE HEREUNTO SET OUR HANDS AND CAUSE THE SEAL of Reno County to be affixed this 19 th day of October, 2018. BOARD OF RENO COUNTY COMMISSIONERS Ron Hirst, Chairman Bob Bush, Member ATTEST: Dan Deming, Member Donna Patton, Reno County Clerk

RENO COUNTY COMMISSION 206 West First Avenue Hutchinson, Kansas 67501 620-694-2929 October 19, 2018 To Whom It May Concern: I understand that the Training and Evaluation Center of Hutchinson, Inc. (TECH) is seeking a grant from the Kansas Department of Transportation for the acquisition of two lift-equipped buses to assist in serving client transportation needs in Reno County. The buses will transport TECH clients to a variety of worksites, social programs, community activities, medical appointments, shopping and entertainment opportunities. Our county bus system, R-CAT, is helpful to some clients but does not operate on holidays, Sundays and during hours after 7 p.m. In addition, a client s severity of disability may prevent them from riding on R-CAT vans or busses. Because of transportation furnished by TECH, their clients are able to be much more independent and enjoy the opportunity of inclusion in activities and events that otherwise would not be possible. The buses are being sought to assure that needed transportation remains available. Since the county is only able to assist in limited ways, we urge K-DOT s approval of the requested minivan. The Reno County Commission gave unanimous approval to this support at their regular meeting on October 19, 2018. TECH is a highly respected, highly recognized service organization in Hutchinson that has an excellent record of community service to its residents.
