Regular October 27, 2014 1. CALL TO ORDER Committee Chair Therresa Austin called the meeting to order at 4:00 PM 2. ROLL CALL Present were: Committee member Abigail Hoos, Committee member Alexandra Silva, Committee member Angelica Austin, Committee Secretary Karla Monroy, Committee Vice Chair Madison Boker, Committee member River Michael Recatto, Committee member Tabetha Tusant, Committee Chair Therresa Austin, Committee member Zonke Frazier, Community Services Director Robert Lennox, Management Analyst Margarita Cornejo, Senior Administrative Analyst Allen Yun, and Lazy Creek Recreational Center Activity Manager Sharon Hanson. 3. AGENDA APPROVAL OR MODIFICATION Management Analyst Margarita Cornejo provided two (2) minor modifications on page 2 to the September 29, 2014 Minutes. Motion to approve the minutes with the modifications to page 2 made by Committee Chair Therresa Austin. Second to motion to approve to approve the minutes with the modifications to page 2 made by Committee member Alexandra Silva. 4. PRESENTATIONS None. 5. PUBLIC COMMENTS (non-agenda items only) Lazy Creek Recreation Center Activity Manager Sharon Hanson introduced the purpose of the Lazy Recreation Center and the activities she manages for the City of Menifee. Lazy Creek Recreation Center Activity Manager Sharon Hanson offered community service for the committee members who would help in the October Fall Festival. 6. APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES 6.1. Second to motion to approve made by Vice Chair Madison Baker. 7. DISCUSSION ITEMS 7.1. Meeting Calendar: Review and approval of the 2014-2015 tentative schedule Community Services Director Robert Lennox discussed the new and upcoming events following the month of November. Vice Chair Madison Baker questioned whether the committee will go in a group or individually to the November 24, 2014 Facility Tour around Riverside County San Jacinto's Animal Campus. Community Services Director Robert Lennox indicated that the committee members are permitted to meet individually at San Jacinto's Animal Campus but suggested that the committee should meet up at the Menifee City Hall for all members can be transported to the campus together. Community Services Director Robert Lennox added that any minors in the Menifee Youth Advisory Committee that are going to the Facility Tour on November 24, 2014 need to sign a waiver in order to take the tour. Motion to approve scheduled 2014-2015 Youth Advisory Meeting Calendar by Committee member River Michael Recatto. Second to motion to approve by Committee member Angelica Austin. 7.2. Event Street Banners Discussion Committee member Alexandra Silva commented if the event banners would be a conflict to the marine served banners on the posts. Community Services Director Robert Lennox responded back saying that he will discuss this with other members of the council regarding Committee member Alexandra Silva s question. Committee member Alexandra Silva discussed how the events banner could be a distraction to traffic. Committee member Angelica Austin referred to the banners being set up during the day or night. Committee member Alexandra Silva asked about receiving help from high schools that the Committee members are enrolled at, to contribute to the banners. Committee member Zonke Frazier suggested that the Art Club from the high schools can be a useful resource to design the banners. Committee member Alexandra Silva indicated that high schools/colleges contributing to the events banner is a helpful way for students to get more involved within their community. Community Services Director Robert Lennox remarked that the upcoming and biggest events are Xmas Tree Lighting, Breakfast with Santa, Spark of Love, Spring Fest, QV Clean Up, Father s Day Camp Out, Independence Day and Parade, and the Annual Celebration. Committee Chair Therresa Austin stated that each member should receive an event to design within their school. 7.3. Events and Service Project Discussion Senior Administrative Analyst Allen Yun requested the need for volunteers for the Veterans 5K. Committee member Angelica Austin suggested the Menifee Youth Advisory Committee to volunteer for the events and asked what time the events begin and end. Senior Administrative Analyst Allen Yun stated that the Xmas Tree Lighting begins at 4:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Lazy Creek Recreational Center Manager Sharon Hanson reported that the Breakfast with Santa starts at 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m and needs volunteers to be servers and elves. Committee member Alexandra Silva asked if the volunteers will be put into shifts. Lazy Creek Recreational Center Activity Manager Sharon Hanson declared that there will be shifts for the volunteers to be in order of. The QV Clean Up, however, is an all-day event. Senior Administrative Analyst Allen Yun discussed the 2014 Christmas Tree Lighting visual map and how there will be a snow play area for the children, photos being taken with Santa, vendors, and a performance. Committee Vice-Chair Madison Baker explained how she is a part of the dance program at MSJC and she can ask the dance team to perform for the Christmas Tree Lighting. 8. COMMUNITY SERVICES DIRECTOR COMMENTS Community Services Director Robert Lennox discussed the Marketing committee that was regarded from the September 29, 2014 meeting. Designs for T-shirts to be made for the Menifee Youth Advisory Committee to wear. Participations in the Marketing sub-committee will include: Alexandra Silva, Therresa Austin, Angelica Austin, Tabetha Tusant, and Zonke Frazier. 9. COMMITTEE MEMBER COMMENTS Committee member Alexandra Silva had questions regarding what would be on the t-shirt. Committee member Zonke Frazier asked if the Menifee Youth Advisory Committee will have its own logo. Community Services Director Robert Lennox responded that the Marketing subcommittee can design the logo and t-shirts if the Menifee Youth Advisory Committee agrees. Committee Vice-Chair Madison Boker inquired if the entire committee has to go to the tours in order for it to happen, and if it is necessary to go to. Community Services Director Robert Lennox explained that it is not required to go to the tours, although, it is good experience and at least more half of the Youth Advisory Committee is advised to go, in order for the tour to happen. 10.
