REGULAR MEETING MINUTES BOARD OF EDUCATION SCHOOL DISTRICT OF COLBY MONDAY, AUGUST 21, 2017 COLBY DISTRICT/EDUCATION CENTER The Regular School Board Meeting on August 21, 2017 was called to order at 6:30 PM at the Colby District Education Center by Board President, William Tesmer. Members present were: Eric Elmhorst, Jean Schmitt, William Tesmer, Lavinia Bonacker and Cheryl Ploeckelman. Seth Pinter and Jennifer Lopez were absent. Also present were Superintendent Steven Kolden and Kristen Seifert. The meeting notice was posted according to the requirements of the open meeting law. Community members spoke regarding the Transportation Guidelines and/or Specific Bus Routes. Joe Burnett was also in attendance and spoke regarding this agenda item. Motion by Mrs. Ploeckelman, seconded by Mrs. Bonacker to approve a rural stop at the corner of Hiline and Viking in Dorchester. Voice vote motion carried. The Board received a thank you from Mrs. Michele Stewart regarding the PLC conference she attended. Mr. Kolden updated the Board on annual meeting; Fund 46 CD s; Referendum/Construction Update; Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Grant; School Forest Update; General Facilities Updates; 8/22 Chamber Meeting; Staff Inservice on 8/23 and 8/24. The District has a defibrillator in each building in the District. Mr. Penry, Director of Special Education reviewed the 2016-17 Seclusion Restraint report with the Board. Mr. Kolden reviewed staff engagement pertaining to Strategic Planning Workforce Development. Motion by Mr. Elmhorst, seconded by Mrs. Bonacker to approve the milk bid from Dean Foods. Voice vote motion carried. Motion by Mr. Elmhorst, seconded by Mrs. Lopez to approve the 2017-18 draft budget as presented for presentation at the Annual Meeting on September 18. Voice vote motion carried. Motion by Mr. Elmhorst, seconded by Mrs. Bonacker to approve the bid from Lighthouse Productions for Auditorium Stage Lighting not to exceed $69,000. Voice vote motion carried. Motion by Mrs. Bonacker, seconded by Mrs. Lopez to approve the bid from Lighthouse Productions for Auditorium Stage Curtain and Rigging not to exceed $20,000. The 88 th National FFA Convention is filled with many educational opportunities for our FFA members along with opening doors to future employment opportunities. Attendance at this convention is recommended by the Department of Public Instruction. The Colby FFA members will be traveling to the National FFA Convention in a school van, driven by advisors Jenessa Freidhof and Taylor Halopka. We are planning to leave the school at 3:30 am on October 24 th and returning on October 26 th around 11:00 pm. While at the convention, our FFA members will have the opportunity to meet other FFA members from across the United States, attend the career show with hundreds of representatives from colleges, universities, and businesses from all facets of industry and will be able to hear from some of the best motivational speakers in the country. Again, I am asking permission to share this great opportunity with these outstanding FFA members outside of the state of Wisconsin. The skills gained, knowledge acquired and enthusiasm brought back will have a positive impact on all of us. Please consider this request.
