Sieroty, Democrat, was elected to the State Assembly in 1966 to represent the 59th District of Los Angeles County. His district became the 44th Assembly District after redistricting. On March 8, 1977 he was elected to the California State Senate during a Special Election. As a senator, he represented the 22nd District within Los Angeles County. Alan Sieroty was born in Los Angeles on December 13, 1930. He was a life-long resident of the Westside area of Los Angeles. Sieroty earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics from Stanford University where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa. He continued his education at the University of Southern California, School of Law and earned a LL.B. degree. Prior to his term in the State Legislature, he served as Deputy Director of the Chile-California Program, 1965-1966, as well as, Administrative Assistant and Executive Secretary to Lieutenant Governor Glenn Anderson, 1961-1965. Senator Sieroty was a member of the Los Angeles County Democratic Central Committee, American Jewish Committee, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Friends of Santa Monica State Park, Anti-Defamation League of B'nai B'rith, and the California Arts Commission. He served on the Board of Directors of the American Civil Liberties Union, and Any Town, U.S.A. He was also Chairman of the National Conference of State Legislatures Arts Task Force. While serving in the Legislature he was author of the Dymally-Sieroty Children's Center Construction Act, California Financial Privacy Act, and the Art-in-Public-Buildings Act.
