Minutes of the NYHIMA HOUSE OF DELEGATES Albany, New York June 7, 2015

CALL TO ORDER The 80 th Annual Conference House of Delegates of the New York Health Information Management Association, Inc. was called to order at 1:10 p.m. at the Crowne Plaza Syracuse Conference Center, Syracuse, New York by President-Elect Michele Bohley, RHIA, CCS. ROLL CALL AND ANNOUNCEMENT REGARDING QUORUM Jane J. Conway, RHIA, CPhT, Credential Officer/Teller, took the roll. The President declared a quorum present. ANNOUNCEMENT OF MEMBERS SERVING THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES President Macica introduced the members serving the House of Delegates: Credentials Officer: Michele Bohley, RHIA, CCS Renato L. Estrella, MSHA, RHIA, FAHIMA Jane J. Conway, RHIA, CPhT President Macica appointed Jane Conway as timekeeper. ANNOUNCEMENT OF VOTING STRENGTH OF THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES Credentials Officer Conway reported the voting strength of the House as 51. The Credentials report was adopted. ADOPTION OF RULES GOVERNING THE CONDUCT OF BUSINESS IN THE HOUSE OF DELEGATES President-Elect Bohley read the Rules for the House of Delegates; the rules were adopted. ADOPTION OF AGENDA The 2015 Annual Conference - House of Delegates Agenda was adopted. REPORT ON THE 2014 HOUSE OF DELEGATES MINUTES President Macica reported the minutes from the 2014 House of Delegates were approved by the Board of Directors. ANNOUNCEMENT OF AWARD RECIPIENTS President Macica and the Awards Committee announced the names of this year s recognition award recipients. Frances Scott, RHIA is the 2015 Distinguished Member Award recipient. Sue Clarke- Kendrick, RHIT is the Mentor Award recipient. Kathleen Roth, RHIA is the Mary Zannis Scholarship recipient, Karen Fabrizio, RHIA is the recipient of the Author Award and the Book Fund Scholarship was presented to Cynthia Abair and Laken MacFarland. REPORT OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS President Macica provided and overview of the 2014-2015 Annual Report of the Board of Directors that would be posted to the NYHIMA Website. FINANCE REPORT OF THE BOARD OF DIRECTORS Scott presented the report of Sicilia and Associates, P.C., of Schenectady, for the previous fiscal year and reported that the association s finances were moving in a positive direction. There being no questions or comments from the floor, the report was adopted. AHIMA HOD ACTION ITEMS PRESENTATION President Macica provided an update on AHIMA HOD action items including changes to the by-laws of NYHIMA to ensure that the association was in compliance. There were no questions. DELEGATE'S FORUM The 2015 Delegates Forum focused on the following Strategic Plan Format of Future Annual Conferences Delegates were randomly assigned to one of five (5) discussion groups by counting off around the room. Each group appointed their own facilitator and recorder. Forty-five (45) minutes were allotted for discussion, followed by reports from each group. The forum produced useful feedback. 2014 ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS The Academic Achievement Awards and Clinical Preceptor Awards for 2015 were announced by Education/Programs Director Youngs. 10 students received the Academic Achievement Award. 10 professional members received the Clinical Preceptor Award. The HOD applauded all honorees for their achievements. REPORT OF THE TELLERS and Nominating Committee Chair Renato Estrella reported the results of the 2015 Election of Officers. INTRODUCTION OF OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS FOR 2014-2015 President Estrella recognized the 2014-2015 Board of Directors to the House: Communications Michele Bohley, RHIA, CCS Renato L. Estrella, MSHA, RHIA, FAHIMA Darlene M. McKendrick, RHIT, CCS INTRODUCTION OF OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS FOR 2015-2016 President Estrella introduced the 2015-2016 Board of Directors to the House: Communications Michele B. Bohley, RHIA, CCS Christine Edwards, RHIA, CHP Darlene M. McKendrick, RHIT, CCS COMMITTEE CHAIRS FOR 2015-2016 President-Elect Bohley announced that she would be working with the Board to review NYHIMA s Committees and further discuss their disposition and the appointment of chairs. NEW BUSINESS Lynn-Marie Wozniak, MS, RHIT led a discussion on CAHIM CEU. This issue is being monitored by NYHIMA leaders. OPEN FORUM President Macica announced an open forum. Two issues were presented: 1) Time frame for voting on the floor for the ballot, and 2) Communicating with AHIMA on all that NYHIMA is doing. Following these discussions, the House returned to regular session. ANNOUNCEMENTS President-Elect Bohley provided a rundown of conference activities and encouraged everyone to fully participate in all that was planned for attendees. She thanked everyone for being present and for all who worked to make the conference a reality. Page 4
