MIDLANDS PROVINCE 1. Redcliff Constituency Constituency Map Redcliff Constituency Biography The constituency comprises Redcliff, Ripple Creek and Komera. It is a constituency that was created out of Kwekwe constituency in the Midlands province after 2008 delimitation exercise and is administered under the Redcliff Municipality. It is a mining area near Kwekwe that was established to exploit the rich iron ore deposits in the area. It is the home of Zimbabwe's giant steel production company, ZISCO, and together with the mining of iron ore at Ripple Creek. Constituency Population

The constituency has a population of 60 494 people comprising of 30 032 males and 30 462 females. The population is housed in about 14 451 households with an average household size of 4 people. Amongst the population, 30 018 are registered voters giving an average of 2001 registered voters per ward. There are more females to males in the constituency, this tallies with the provincial population distribution. Ward 25 and ward 3 has 35.12% of the total constituency population. All the wards however have a population counting above 1000 people. Ward 25 has the highest number of registered voters while ward 24 has the least registered voters. There is a link between population distribution and distribution of registered voters in the constituency. All wards have registered voters above the constituency average save for ward 7 and ward 24 as shown in the graph below. The proportion of registered voters represents 49.62% of the total population in the constituency. Election History The constituency had 27 565 registered voters in 2005, 31 544 in 2008, 32 198 in 2013 and 29 681 in 2018. 2. Gokwe Chireya Constituency Constituency Map Constituency Biography The constituency comprises of Tshoda, Chireya and Rukura. This is a constituency which was part of Gokwe South in 2005 and Gokwe North in 2000, found north east of Chireya business centre, east and south east of Mashame Rural Health Centre. Crops grown in Gokwe Chireya include cotton for cash and maize, groundnuts and round nuts for food. Schools in the area are found along the main road whilst a few are found in the remote places of Gokwe Chireya. The road infrastructure is bad and the floods experienced in 2000 damaged roads and they have not been repaired. The area witnessed some violence and intimidation in the run up to the 2000 and

2005 parliamentary elections. Poverty is high and the incidence of poverty was 72 per cent in 2003 and it has since increased with the decline in the economic performance of the country. Electoral History The constituency had 27 261 registered voters in 2005, 29 324 in 2008 and 27 644 in 2018. Constituency Biography This is a constituency born out of Gokwe North. It comprises of Zomba, Sengwa and Madzivazvido. People survive from the cultivation of fodder crops and cotton, but the area is prone to drought. Schools are few and most of the young people in the area do not go beyond secondary school and they survive on farming for a livelihood. Despite all this, the people have voted in favour of the ruling party in most elections. Some few clinics are found mainly to serve the children's medical requirements just as the statutory requirements demands. Results for 2000 elections are not available as the constituency was non-existent. Electoral History. The constituency had 24 809 registered voters in 2005, 23 699 in 2008, 23 699 in 2013 and 28 159 in 2018. 2013 Election Results Political Party Candidate Number of Votes % of votes

Constituency Biography The constituency includes Nembudziya and Kuwirirana. The region is arid and rainfall is very sporadic. The people rely on farming drought resistant crops such as cotton. The sale of cotton provides income but it comes once a year as a result it is inadequate to sustain their needs. The youth now rely on gold panning in order to supplement incomes. Poverty incidence was 75 per cent in 2003 and this could be higher given rapid economic deterioration that has crippled the country. Children rarely go beyond secondary school as cotton profit is not enough for most households. This has kept the population illiterate and unable to make informed political decisions. They are prone to intimidation but the area remains a ZANU PF stronghold although some opposition activities took place before the 2002 presidential elections. Electoral History.

The constituency had 27 026 registered voters in 2005, 28 899 in 2008, 28 899 in 2013 and 25 438 in 2018. Constituency Biography Gokwe Sesame is a constituency that was split from Gokwe Sengwa and Gokwe constituency. The constituency covers Mutimutema and Sesame. The community derives its livelihood from agriculture. Cash crops such as cotton are the main crops in the region. Poverty levels have gone beyond 73 percent and the area is under developed. The health and education delivery system has suffered from staff attrition as professionals are unwilling to work in remote areas. People in Gokwe Rural like most rural communities in Zimbabwe have voted in support of ZANU PF. Electoral History The constituency had 31 905 registered voters in 2005, 28 462 in 2008, 28 426 in 2013 and 29 492 in 2018. In 2013. 2013 Election Results

Constituency Biography Gokwe Sengwa includes Sengwa Bridge, Sengwa and Matema. The major business centre is Sengwa Bridge Business Centre. This place has become a ghost centre as many shops are empty and locals travel to Gokwe Centre for goods and services. Schools are few and far between. The area remains largely undeveloped. Some residents find employment at Sengwa Mine, which mines coal. Poverty levels have increased as farming costs increased due to shortages of seed, chemicals and fuel. Electoral History The area remains a ZANU PF stronghold. The constituency had 24 809 registered voters in 2005 whilst in 2008, 35 035 in 2013 and 21 825 in 2018.

The people rely on subsistence farming and they grow cotton. Infrastructure is undeveloped. Electoral History ZANU PF has won all elections in this constituency. Constituency Biography Gokwe comprises of Njelele, Gokwe and Gwavava. The constituency was pruned in the 2008 delimitation and a number of new constituencies have grown out of it. Gokwe is a dry region and cotton remains the main crop area. The area is known for cotton farming and it is a hive of informal trading activities during harvest time. Constituency Biography Gokwe-Mapfungautsi comprises of Nyarupakwe and Gwanyika. It was amassed from Gokwe Nembudziya. The area is arid, and in the past it was deemed unsuitable for human habitation. There is shortage of water and electrification has not benefited the residents. Due to the fertile soils in the area, people moved from Gutu and Masvingo to settle in this area. Cotton farming is the main source of farming activity as the area is suitable for drought resistant crops. Electoral History

Constituency Biography The constituency is made up of Copper Queen, Tshoda and Msapakura and born from Gokwe Nembudziya. Cotton farming used to be the main source of income in the area. Cargill depots located in Tshoda have since closed as a result of the fall of cotton prices on the international market. Cotton farming is no longer given priority. Election History ZANU PF has won previous elections. Chirumhanzu Constituency Constituency Map

Constituency Biography Chirumhanzu South is a new constituency that was hived off Chirumhanzu. It comprises of St Josephs, Holy Cross, Chamisa, Charandura, and Chizhou. Subsistence farming and cattle ranching are the main sources of livelihoods in a constituency. The area is home to a number of boarding schools such as Holy Cross and St Josephs, which attract students from all over Zimbabwe. People are poor and high levels of unemployment are inherent features of this constituency. Electoral History The constituency had 25 705 registered voters in 2005, whilst in 2008, the constituency had 25 960 registered voters, 27 634 in 2013 and 19 478 in 2018.

Constituency Biography Communal areas that include Dendera, Runyararo, Vulamatshena and Empress Mine make up the Zhombe Constituency. Born out of Silobela constituency and Chirumanzi constituency, infrastructure found in the constituency includes Mawolokohlo Primary school, St Judes, Zhombe, Nkiwane and Munyati schools. There is Rio Tinto Private Hospital, Samambwa clinic, Nyamunga clinic, Sidakoni clinic and Nyoni Craigholm for rural health care. The constituency has a good network of secondary and tertiary roads. The constituency is mainly agricultural dependant in the north-west and mining in the east and south-east. Most of the mining activity taking place is illegal gold-planning. Poverty levels in the constituency in 2003, were found to be as high as 73% of the total population being poor, 49 per cent of whom were

found to be very poor. The poverty incidence was at 73% which may be much higher now due to drought experienced in the previous years. Constituency Biography Kwekwe is an urban constituency, comprising Kwekwe and Globe and Phoenix. The delimitation removed rural parts from this constituency and created three other constituencies. People derive livelihoods from mines and farms that surround the town. However, most of the gold mines have since closed and illegal gold panning has grown to unprecedented levels, which has resulted in environmental degradation. The incidence of poverty is 50% is relatively low. Electoral History Kwekwe's electorate has voted for MDC. Constituency Biography This is a constituency which comprises high density suburbs of Mbizo, amassed from Kwekwe constituency of 2005, situated in Kwekwe town. People of Mbizo derive their livelihood from illegal gold panning, while some are employed in mines and industries that surround the town. Illegal gold panning has dominated the lives of most residents especially the young generation. Originally, Shurugwi constituency was represented in parliament by Ian smith from 1980 to 1986 till his expulsion from parliament. Francis Nhema of ZANU-PF represented the constituency thereafter. The area is under developed and Chachacha growth point does not have basic commodities needed by people. Constituency Biography Mkoba constituency comprises the high density suburb in Gweru. Before Bata Shoe Company downsized, most of the residents in this constituency found employment with the company. Constituency Biography Made from Ntombe, Crossroads, Silobela, Exchange, Jena and Donsa, the people of Silobela have a strong inclination towards the Ndebele language. The people are generally poor. The people have voted for opposition and this could be attributed to the fact that dissident operations were high in this area and the people were subjected to curfews even after independence in the early 1980s. The population for Silobela constituency was 66 792 people, with 32 416 males and 34 376 females. There are 12 815 households with average household size of 4 people. Amongst the population, 31 510 are registered voters giving an average of 2 101 registered voters per ward. Ward 25 has the highest number of registered voters whilst ward 26 has the least number of registered voters.
