OHIO WRESTLING OFFICIALS ASSOCIATION BOARD OF GOVERNORS MEETING Reynoldsburg High School President Dick Loewenstine called the meeting to order at 1:30 PM. Officers Present: Dick Loewenstine, President; Ron Tschantz, Vice President; Dan Cutcher, Treasurer; Jim Vreeland, Education Director; Ray Anthony, State Interpreter. Not present, Gary Berkowitz, Web Master. Ralph Farmer, Acting Sect. Associations Represented: Jack Regis, Ohio Valley; Jim Vreeland, South Shore; Dick Loewenstine, Greater Cincinnati; Rich Kunkle, Gary Offerdahl, Karen Conklin and Dr. Don Hannon, Steel Valley; Charlie Hardman and John Kiel, Wayne County; Larry Leggett, Eastern District; Ron Tschantz, Western Reserve; Dave Harron, North West Fifth District; Dan Cutcher, Central. Vince Matteucci (representing Northeast) and Ray Anthony (representing Greater Cleveland), OHSAA State Rule Interpreters. There were a total of Associations not represented: Ohio-West Virginia, Lima-Findlay, Southwestern, West Central, Southeastern, Greater Toledo, North Central, and Mad River. Eleven associations represented. An agenda was handed out and followed: I INTRODUCTIONS. The meeting was convened by Dick Loewenstine at 1:30 p.m. following the conclusion of the OHSAA Train the Trainers program. President Loewenstine introduced the OWOA officers and all members representing their respective Associations II TREASURER S REPORT. Dan Cutcher presented the 2003-04 Treasurers Report current balance $844.00 All bills from state tournament have been paid. Dues are $1.00 per member in each respective association. Dues are to be paid by/before December 1, 2004. All associations are current with dues payment. Motion to accept Treasurer s report as submitted, motion by Vince Matteucci, seconded by. Motion passed. III APPROVAL of MINUTES. Minutes of the February 28, 2004 meeting were submitted for approval. Motion by Jim Vreeland, Seconded by. Motion passed - Minutes accepted as published.

3 IV OLD BUSINESS. New Board Members: A motion made during the February 28, 2004 Board of Governor s meeting requesting that the OHSAA State Rule Interpreters be made members of the OWOA executive board of directors. According to the OWOA Constitution (by-laws) A formal vote is to be taken at the following meeting. A Motion to approve the by-law change to have the OHSAA rule interpreters as part of the executive committee was made by Jim Vreeland, seconded. Motion passed. Official s Jackets: Dick Loewenstine reiterated that the OHSAA authorized that a black jacket is a required part of the official s uniform for the 2004-05 season. Official found wearing an unauthorized jacket will be ineligible to officiate a 2004-05 Sectional, District and/or State Tournament. Order forms are available on the OWOA website or through your local association. The required jacket must comply with all requirements previously established by the OHSAA. Training Program Update: Jim Vreeland & Gary Berkowitz conducted the wrestling train the trainer s class. Henry Zaborniak and the OHSAA staff conducted the morning presentation. Jim reported that with the class that there are over 30 authorized instructors/trainers in Ohio. All those that attended the training class were sincerely appreciative for the hard work by those that contributed so much of their time into the development of the Wrestling Officials Training Program. Training Video: Jim Vreeland Education Director, requested receiving any video clips that show tough calls that would be incorporated into training videos to further help train new and older officials to make the correct calls. Jack Beard, Pat Lemming and others are working to develop a training video. The new video will be in a format as you make the call. V NEW BUSINESS Nomination for next years OWOA Officers: President: Dick Loewenstine nominated by Vince Matteucci, seconded, Motion passed. Vice President: Ron Tschantz nominated by Jack Regis, seconded, Motion passed.

4 Treasurer: Dan Cutcher nominated by Gary Offerdahl, seconded, Motion passed. Secretary: Gary Offerdahl, nominated by Rich Kunkle, seconded, Motion passed. Ralph Farmer, nominated by Dan Cutcher, seconded, Motion passed. Motion to close all nominations by Ray Anthony, seconded. Motion approved. New Rules Interpretation: Ray Anthony, OHSAA Rules Interpreter discussed that there will be some changes in the procedure and protocol of selecting officials for the State Tournament. The procedures have yet to be finalized. As of this meeting, this year s State Tournament Officials have not been selected. There are several new rule changes (visit the OWOA website) www.matref.org 2004 OWOA Fall Clinic The 2004 O.W.O.A. fall official s clinic will be in Columbus on November 13, 2004 at Worthington Killbourne Middle School located at 50 E. Dublin Granville Road (161) just one block off 161 and High Street in Downtown Worthington. Registration is at 8:30am and the clinic starts at 9:00 am. The OHSAA interpreters request that all officials should make every effort to attend the fall clinic. The purpose of the clinic is to get all of the officials throughout the state of Ohio to make the same call the same way. The OWOA clinic is also the last date available to receive the required State rules interpreter meeting before requesting a special rules interpretation meeting at the OHSAA office. Discussions on topics and speakers for 2004 fall OWOA clinic. Dr.Randy Wrobel to do a session on sports medicine, injuries, consciousness of wrestler and skin conditions. President Loewenstine asked for any person or association to contact him for their help with the clinic and suggested topics. OWOA Fall Board Meeting: The date is November 12 th, the evening prior to the fall clinic. Location to be confirmed. OWOA Hall of Fame: Nominees for consideration are to be submitted to the HOF selection committee as soon as possible. The Executive Board consists of Vince Matteucci, Jeff Crosby, Kirk Rockel, John Young and Dan Cutcher.
