The convention will be in Las Vegas, Nevada from August 14-18, 2013. APALA is pleased to host our intergenerational conference of Asian Pacific American workers and allies. This powerful convening continues the groundwork laid by our training programs including the Organizing Institute, our political program Every Vote Counts, and our series of successful immigrant rights hearings and forums across the country. We are building a path toward the future, linking generations of activists in support of working and middle class families. Asian Pacific Americans (APAs) are a vital part of the changing labor movement and face unique challenges in this difficult economy. The most recent census tells us that APAs are the fastest growing racial group in the country. There are more than 17 million APAs that represent 6% of the population. Additionally, APAs who are unemployed, are without jobs for longer than other Americans, and face greater language barriers to employment. Now, more than ever, Asian Pacific Americans and union activists need a place to convene and tackle the challenges that we face. Workers are still facing discrimination on the job, undocumented Americans need a pathway to citizenship and homeowners increasingly find themselves unable to maintain the roof over their heads. Even as we have achieved legislative victories on health care, access to higher education, and bank reform, we must continue fighting for good jobs, immigration reform, and union solidarity between the public and private sectors. The time for action is now and our convention is an exciting opportunity to engage. Our Strength, Our Voice: Leading the Way allows workers and allies to engage in lively and uplifting debate as APALA continues to advance worker, immigrant & civil rights. Please join us as we continue our march for justice. In Solidarity, Johanna Puno Hester National President
