MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE TYLER COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION February 6, 2017 The regular meeting was called to order at 7:30 p.m. at the Tyler County Board of Education. Board members present were: President PJ Wells, Vice President Bonnie Henthorn, Scott Strode, Linda Hoover and Jimmy Wyatt. Superintendent Robin Daquilante was also present. Others present were: Duane Dober, Director of Human Resources; Stacey Roberts, Executive Secretary; Rosanne Eastham, Sabrina Kyle and Margaret Rymer. On a motion made by Linda Hoover, seconded by Jimmy Wyatt with a 5-0 vote, the Board approved the minutes of the January 17, 2017 Regular Meeting. Rosanne Eastham and Sabrina Kyle, from the Middlebourne and Sistersville Public Libraries, spoke to the Board regarding library funding. On a motion made by Jimmy Wyatt, seconded by Bonnie Henthorn with a 5-0 vote, the Board approved a resolution in support of RESA 5. On a motion made by Linda Hoover, seconded by Jimmy Wyatt with a 5-0 vote, the Board approved the following athletic schedule: 1. Tyler Consolidated High School 2017 Football schedule 2. Tyler Consolidated High School 2017 Girls Soccer schedule 3. Tyler Consolidated High School 2017 Boys Soccer schedule On a motion made by Bonnie Henthorn, seconded by Scott Strode with a 5-0 vote, the Board approved the following requests: a. Crystal Rocchio requests that her daughter, Lexus Rocchio, be permitted to take a leave of educational value from February 24th to March 3rd. They will be visiting family at Lake Okeechobee, Florida. b. Brittney Arman requests permission for her children, Dawson Arman and Kayleigh Arman to cross county lines to attend Boreman Elementary School for the remainder of the 2016-17 school year. c. Melinda Dalrymple requests permission for her child, Jayden Reed, to cross county lines to attend Tyler Consolidated High School for the remainder of the 2016-17 school year. d. Pam Stollings requests permission for her children, Nathan and Madison Stollings, to cross county lines to attend Boreman Elementary School and Tyler Consolidated Middle School for the 2017-18 school year.
e. Joyce Hagerty and Gwen Davies, on behalf of Tyler County Relay for Life, requests permission to use the Tyler Consolidated Middle/High School Library for the purpose of monthly meetings. The meetings will be held on February 2 nd, March 2 nd, April 6 th, May 4 th and June 1 st of 2017. The meetings will be held from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Joyce Hagerty and Gwen Davies have agreed to oversee the event. The organization will be completely responsible for clean-up. f. Joyce Hagerty and Gwen Davies, on behalf of ACS-Relay for Life, request permission to use Tyler Consolidated Middle/High School Concession Stand area, serving area and Mrs. Stewarts room on March 15-16, 2017 to hold a Spaghetti Dinner for staff and families prior to the All County Choir concert. They will be using the facilities from 4:00pm to 7:00pm on both evenings. Trudy Pethtel has agreed to over-see this event. There will be a $30.00 rental fee. The organization will be completely responsible for clean-up. g. Donnie Earley, on behalf of Artslink, Inc., requests permission to use the Tyler Consolidated High School auditorium and nearby school rooms, if necessary, on March 21, 2017 for a public performance by concert pianist, Clipper Erickson. Bryce Negie has agreed to oversee the event. The organization will be completely responsible for clean-up. On a motion made by Bonnie Henthorn, seconded by Linda Hoover with a 5-0 vote, the Board approved the following trip requests: a. Pam Stollings and Linda Duncan request permission to take the Tyler Consolidated Middle/High School STARS club to the annual awards luncheon at WVU- Parkersburg on April 6, 2017. They also request bus transportation. b. Linda Duncan requests permission to take the Hidden Promise Scholars at Tyler Consolidated Middle/High School to Glenville State College on March 30, 2017 for their College Day presentation. She also requests a bus for transportation. c. Melinda Walton requests permission for Ben Thomas and Jami Nelson to take a group of Special Education students to the Arts Festival at WVU-Parkersburg on March 21, 2017. She also requests bus transportation. d. Pam Stollings requests permission for a visit to the Mid-Ohio Valley Technical Institute for interested sophomores on February 10, 2017. They should return to the school by 11:30am. She also requests bus transportation. e. Ashley Cochran requests permission to take forty-nine Tyler Consolidated High students to Cedar Lakes for the WV TSA State Conference in Ripley, WV, March 30- April 1, 2017. They will be sharing chaperones with Tyler Consolidated Middle School TSA. Those chaperones include Ashley Cochran, Matt Moore, Amy Glover, Jacob Myer and Luke Cunningham. She also requests bus transportation.
f. Bryce Negie requests permission to take the TCHS Chamber Choir to the Wheeling Nailers game at the Wesbanco Arena in Wheeling, WV to perform God Bless America on February 18, 2017. He asks that Jennifer Negie and Jamie Moore be permitted to serve as chaperones. He also requests bus transportation. g. Bryce Negie requests permission to take the TCMS choir to the Wheeling Nailers at the Wesbanco Arena in Wheeling, WV to perform God Bless America on March 24, 2017. He asks that Jennifer Negie be permitted to be a chaperone. He also requests bus transportation. On a motion made by Linda Hoover, seconded by Scott Strode with a 5-0 vote, the Board approved the following Personnel employments and transfers and rescissions: a. Employ Joseph Snyder, Jr., Bus Operator, Bus and Route #15, effective February 7, 2017. b. Employ Tina Lancaster, Class I Water Operator, for the balance of the current school year effective February 9, 2017 and for the 2017-2018 school year. On a motion made by Bonnie Henthorn, seconded by Jimmy Wyatt with a 5-0 vote, the Board allowed and authorized Payment of Bills: On a motion made by Bonnie Henthorn, seconded by Linda Hoover with a 5-0 vote, the Board went into Executive Session at 8:10 p.m. under Item 2, as per the School Laws of WV 6-9A-4, The appointment, employment, retirement, promotion, demotion, disciplining, resignation, discharge, dismissal or compensation of any public officer or employee, or other personnel matters, or for the purpose of conducting a hearing on a complaint against a public officer or employee, unless such public officer or employee requests an open meeting. The Board came out of Executive Session at 8:35 p.m. on a motion made by Bonnie Henthorn, seconded by Jimmy Wyatt with a 5-0 vote.
The Board adjourned at 8:40 p.m. The next regular meeting will be held on Monday, February 20, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. at Tyler County Board of Education Office located on Dodd Street in Middlebourne. Minutes Read and Approved President Secretary
