[1] Appointment of a new member to the Committee of Experts on International Cooperation in Tax Matters Casual vacancy The Council took note of the appointment by the Secretary-General of Miguel Ferre Navarrete (Spain) to the Committee for a term beginning on the date of appointment and expiring on 30 June 2009, to fill a vacancy arising from the resignation of José Antonio Bustos Buiza (Spain). Application of an intergovernmental organization for observer status with the Economic and Social Council A statement was made by the representative of Canada. No. 20 Economic and Social Council Geneva Friday, 27 July 2007 Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the Specialized Agencies: draft annex relating to the World Tourism Organization Upon the proposal of the Vice-President (Haiti), the Council agreed to defer its consideration of this matter to its 2008 substantive session, with the proviso that the item could be taken up earlier and a decision adopted without any debate. Coordination, programme and other questions:.....[7] (a) International cooperation in the field of informatics Action on draft resolution E/2007/L.24 The Council was informed that the draft resolution contained no programme budget implications. The Council adopted the draft resolution and thus concluded its consideration of the sub-item. (g) Ad hoc advisory groups on African countries emerging from conflict Action on draft resolution E/2007/L.27 The Secretary read out a statement of programme budget implications. After the adoption of the draft resolution, statements were made by the representatives of South Africa, Haiti and Guinea-Bissau. (h) Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS) Introduction of draft resolution E/2007/L.23 The representative of Thailand introduced the draft resolution on behalf of the sponsors listed in the document, as well as Andorra, Canada, France, Ireland, New Zealand, the Philippines, Sweden and Switzerland. (i) Calendar of conferences Following a statement made by the representative of Jamaica, the Council approved the provisional calendar of conferences and meetings for 2008 and 2009 in the economic, social and related fields, as contained in document E/2007/L.10. Action on draft resolution E/2007/L.25 The Council was informed that the draft resolution contained no programme budget implications. On the proposal of the Vice-President (Haiti), the Council decided to take note of documentation under the sub-item. The Council thus concluded its consideration of the sub-item. The representative of the United States of America made a statement. (e) United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees The Council resumed consideration of the sub-item. Action on draft decision E/2007/L.17 The Council adopted the draft decision and thus concluded its consideration of sub-item 14 (e). 46th meeting..... Implementation of the Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples by the specialized agencies and the international institutions associated with the United Nations.....[9] Action on draft resolution E/2007/L.19 The Council adopted the draft resolution by a roll-call vote of 33 to none, with 19 abstentions. Statements in explanation of vote before the vote were made by the representatives of New Zealand, Portugal (on behalf of the European Union) and the United States of America. Friday, 27 July 2007 Economic and Social Council Geneva No. 20 The Council decided to take note of document A/62/82-E/2007/66. The Council thus concluded its consideration of item 9. Economic and social repercussions of the Israeli occupation on the living conditions of the Palestinian people in the occupied Palestinian territory, including Jerusalem, and the Arab population in the occupied Syrian Golan [11] Action on draft resolution E/2007/L.26 A statement was made by the Secretary with regard to a technical correction to the list of sponsors of the draft resolution. Belarus joined as a sponsor of the draft resolution. The Council adopted the draft resolution by a roll-call vote of 29 to 2, with 18 abstentions. Before the vote, statements were made by the observers for Israel and the Syrian Arab Republic. A statement in explanation of vote before the vote was made by the representative of Portugal (on behalf of the European Union). After the vote, statements were made by the representatives of Canada, the United States of America and Japan. The Council decided to take note of document A/62/75-E/2007/13.. The Council thus concluded its consideration of item 11. United Nations Forum on Forests... [13 (i)] The Council resumed its consideration of the sub-item. The Council decided to defer action on the report of the United Nations Forum on Forests on its seventh session (E/2007/42 and Corr.1) to its next resumed substantive session. Draft resolution contained in Section A The draft resolution was adopted by a roll-call vote of 49 to 1. The representative of Pakistan (on behalf of the Group of 77 and China) made a statement in explanation of the vote before the vote. The representative of the United States of America made a statement in explanation of vote after the vote. The representative of Portugal (on behalf of the European Union) also made a statement. Draft resolution contained in Section B Draft decision contained in Section C The Council adopted the draft decision. Decision contained in Section D The Council confirmed the nomination of the eight candidates listed in the decision for membership in the Board of the United Nations Research Institute for Social Development.
