Approval of Agenda Cindy Grannan made the Motion to approve the Agenda. Stephanie Simpson seconded the Motion and the Agenda was approved unanimously. III. Approval of Minutes A. March 24, 2016 Cindy Grannan made the Motion to approve the Minutes for March. Stephanie Simpson seconded the Motion and the Minutes were approved unanimously. IV. Correspondence V. Public Comment
Page 2 VI. Community Announcements Hazel Crest: Janet Porter announced that there will be a Vietnam Memorial Moving Wall Opening Ceremony held on Thursday, May 5, 2016 in Hazel Crest. Olympia Fields: Denise Will announced that there will be a 5K Race held at the Olympia Fields Park District on Sunday, May 8, 2016. VII. Unfinished Business VIII. New Business A. 2016-2017 Proposed Budget Enclosure The Budget Committee met in February and March to review all anticipated revenue and expenses for the year. Porter mentioned that in terms of revenue, this is the fourth year of a decline in tax dollars. Porter also mentioned that staff made every effort to cut cost. There is only a 2% increase in proposed administrative expenses. Porter mentioned that before adding the expenses for a new After School Program, there was less than a 1% increase in proposed programming expenses. Porter mentioned that an After School Program has been requested to meet the needs of Frankfort Square residents and that the revenue and expenses were included in the budget. The program will be offered from mid-august through the end of the 2016-2017 school year. In terms of capital, vehicle replacement is not needed for the upcoming year. The agency has an opportunity to be a part of Frankfort Square Park District s new digital sign. The park district has asked that the agency cover 1/3 of the cost which is included in the capital area of the proposed budget. Chevalier raised a question asking if SSSRA will be able to put anything on the digital sign? Jim Randall explained yes, SSSRA will be able to put any changeable messages on the digital sign per your smart phone. Chevalier called for a Motion to approve the 2016-2017 Budget. A Motion was made by Cindy Grannan and seconded by Denise Will. A roll call vote was taken: F rankfort Square Yes Matteson Yes Richton Park absent Group Homes Struggle To Remain Staffed Porter reviewed an article in regard to Group Homes Struggle To Remain Staffed. Porter shared with the Board that there is a crisis-level shortage of employees due to the employees getting paid low minimum wages. Porter mentioned that the article was for informational purposes and at this point in time does not affect SSSRA.
Page 3 IX. Staff Report A. Program 1. Winter, 2016 Inclusion Summary During the winter of 2016, SSSRA supported a total of 11 individuals though the Inclusion process. Drzewiecki shared with the Board that the direct service hours by part-time staff was 541.25 hours. Porter added that the hours of the Inclusion Manager have doubled compared to last year due to the before and after school needs. 2. Outreach Report March, 2016 SSSRA made 18 phone calls to participants from nine member districts to recruit for the spring vacation trip and as a result, seven participants will be attending the St. Louis weekend trip. SSSRA also mailed seventy five day camp flyers to the Easter Seals Resource Fair to promote SSSRA s summer day camp. 3. Special Olympic Basketball Update The SSSRA Hornets attended the Special Olympics State Basketball Tournament March 12 & 13 at Illinois State University. The team won both games and brought home a gold medal. 4. Special Olympics Bocce On April 19, SSSRA Special Olympics Bocce athletes were scheduled to compete in the Area 7 Bocce Tournament held at the Dyer Sports Arena in Dyer, Indiana. Due to weather conditions, Area 7 officials cancelled the tournament. Drzewiecki mentioned that in this situation athlete s names are then put into a pool and randomly drawn. Those chosen are then eligible to attend the State Games at Illinois State University held on June 10 12, 2016. Drzewiecki mentioned that three athletes from our agency were chosen to participant in the State Games. 5. Drama Show - Enclosure HAIRSPRAY will be held at Freedom Hall on May 2, 2016 at 7:00 p.m. 6. May Special Events - Enclosure Drzewiecki reviewed a flyer of upcoming special events for May and highlighted three events; the SSSRA Family Banquet that will be held on Wednesday, May 11 in Tinley Park and the St. Louis, MO weekend trip that will be held on Friday, May 13 15. Also, SSSRA will be attending the Country Club Hills Cares Day that will be held on Friday, May 13 in Country Club Hills.
Page 4 IX. Staff Report A. Program (continued) 7. Inclusion Training Enclosure A letter was sent to the member districts offering three Inclusion In-Service Training meetings. Drzewiecki asked the Board to contact Heather Specht, Inclusion Manager, for the trainings and if those dates do not work, Heather Specht is also available to come to their location to provide training. B. Administrative 1. Staff Professional Involvement, Activities and Training March, 2016 Porter reviewed staff activities, highlighting a Legal Workshop for SRA Administrators that Janet Porter, Lisa Drzewiecki, Katie Lucas, Tammy McMahon and Heather Specht attended on March 11, in Addison. Porter mentioned that the workshop covered topics, such as Special Recreation Association Tax Levies, Fair Labor Standards Act, Open Meeting Act, Freedom of Information Act, and Website/ADA Accessibility. 2. Executive Director Evaluation Chevalier reminded the Board to return their Executive Director Evaluation forms to her by April 29, 2016. 3. Update on the Crete Park District X. Financial Report On April 20, SSSRA provided a brief presentation to the Crete Park District Board, and was joined by 15-20 residents who support our association. Residents who attended included parents, participants, and individuals who have attended our fundraisers. Porter mentioned that Ellen Belotti, Director of Special Education of Crete-Monee School District was very influential and spoke about her support of our programs. Ms. Belotti informed the Board that 200 of their 800 students in Special Education live within the Crete Park District boundaries. There was also a teacher from Crete-Monee School District who is the Special Olympics coach for the team at Crete-Monee. Porter mentioned that after the Crete Park District s Board meeting on May 18, the agency will know what direction Crete is going to take and will keep the Board posted. A. Claims List 1.
