LISTSERV is a huge benefit of being a member of WSBA. CLE's Our third of four CLE s co-sponsored by WSBA and Rocky River Municipal Court is scheduled for Friday October 21, 2011. We are putting the finishing touches on the presentation. A lot of hard work and long hours have gone into this CLE. This is our most creative effort to date. The CLE will be on an OVI Motion to Suppress from Stop to Finish. A video has been produced specifically for this CLE using local actors, police officers, Mike O Shea for the Prosecution, Joe Burke as the Defense Attorney and Judge Comstock as the Presiding Judge. The CLE is approved for 3.5 general CLE hours. Registration forms are
available at westshorebarassociation.org under news and events and on the Rocky River Court s home page at rrcourt.net. The fourth of four CLE s co-sponsored by WSBA and Rocky River Municipal Court will be on Friday December 9, 2011. The topics are Substance Abuse, Ethics and Professionalism. This will meet your Supreme Court requirements as they relate to the aforementioned topics. Judy Nash, once again, will present the Substance Abuse portion of the Program. WSBA Member Kim Riley has agreed to present the Professionalism and Ethics Portion of the CLE. More details will follow via email as the date grows closer. All of our CLE s are being planned by our five member CLE Committee of Joe Burke, Kimberly Riley, Tania Nemer, Veronica Dever and Tim Clemens. All of our CLE s co-sponsored by WSBA and Rocky River Municipal Court have been held at Umerly Hall, which is across the parking lot from the Rocky River Court. Members are charged $50 and non-members are charged $75 for each CLE. Announcements will be posted on our web page, on the Rocky River Court s web page, postcards will be sent out and notices will be sent electronically. He has the registration and information forms. GOLF OUTING We had a successful combined golf out with SBA. There were between 65 and 70 participants. As a result, WSBA was the beneficiary of a $150 donation. WSBA donated a certificate good for one of our two remaining 2011 CLE s. Thanks to Jack Hildebrand for lending his talents to make this our second successful combined golf outing. NON-GOLF OUTING The Social Committee has determined that it was too late to plan a quality clambake this late in the year. Instead, they will concentrate
their efforts on the Holiday party, which is set for Tuesday December 13, 2011 at the Beachcliff. HOLIDAY PARTY Due to the availability of the Beachcliff, we had to change our Holiday Party to Tuesday December 13, 2011. We had such a large turn out last year that we have booked the entire restaurant/bar for this year s party. There will be no charge for WSBA Members and one significant other. We may limit admission to Members of Record on or before December 12 th. We have not yet decided for sure. There may be an individual charge for non-members, should there be a decision to admit same. The Social Committee will work with the Officers and Trustees to decide how to proceed. ELECTIONS After this evening, we only have one more General Meeting in 2011. It is on November 1, 2011. In November, we will begin to accept nominations for our 2012 Officers and Trustees. Our election will be at our first Meeting in 2012 on January 3, 2012. We need you all to begin thinking about who you would like to have as your Officers and Trustees in 2012. You can nominate any full member as an officer or trustee. A full member means they are a current dues paying member of the WSBA and have an office or reside in the one of the communities that are in the Jurisdictions of the Rocky River or Lakewood Municipal Courts. YOU MAY ALSO NOMINATE YOURSELF. 2012 DUES We are beginning to accept dues for 2012. We have already received dues for 2012 from several Members. We are now entering our third year of existence. To stay active and to have no interruption of your LISTSERV access, we would suggest that you get your dues payment in early. Please write a check to WSBA for $25 and submit same to Andy Meyer. Or you can download and complete the application from our web site and follow the instructions on the form. We also have dues forms at the door this evening. TREASURER S REPORT FROM ANDY MEYER

NEW BUSINESS FROM MEMBERS Member Jim Lentz received some favorable rulings in a Lorain county DR case where the father had been deployed overseas on active military duty. Jim succeeded in proceeding under the new law and setting precedent in Lorain County helping the deployed parent to maintain contact with the kid(s) via technology. In addition, the deployed individual is now permitted to spend time with their children, testify and give depositions electronically, i.e. Skype. Two Courtrooms in Lorain County are now set up for Skype for this expressed purpose. Member Judge Peter Corrigan has requested that WSBA members email him with their ideas about Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Early Case Management Program and Probable Cause Hearings. He has asked that anyone with ideas, suggestions, kudos and criticisms please express those via email to him at peterjcorrigan@sbcglobal.net Judge Corrigan remained after the meeting and listened to several of our members who provided him with immediate feedback. The system will work best when issues can be addressed. However, unless the issues are presented, they can t be addressed. Therefore, Judge Corrigan encourages anyone who wishes to participate and be heard, now is your chance. INTRODUCTION OF NEW MEMBERS Three new members were introduced at the Meeting.
