XXX April 10, 2013 No. 42 Crawford County rented a log building at the rear of a lot at 901 Water Street and used it as the court house from 1800 through 1804. The county then purchased a lot at 908 Diamond Park, and erected a two-story log building on it, the jail on the ground fl oor and the court room on the second. In 1824, a brick court house at 903 Diamond Park was constructed to the designs of Philadelphia architect William Strickland, and that is the building pictured above, taken from an 1838 engraving. The old log courthouse served as a jail until 1849, and this 1824 court house stood until replaced by the present building in 1867. John B. Brautigam Keith A.
