Distr. LIMITED LC/L.3425(MDM.46/5) 28 November 2011 ENGLISH ORIGINAL: SPANISH Forty-sixth meeting of the Presiding Officers of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean Santiago, 28 30 November 2011 PLAN OF ACTIVITIES 2011-2012 2011-220

1 INTRODUCTION This Plan of activities has been drawn up on the basis of proposals put forward by the ministers who participated in the forty-fifth meeting of the Presiding Officers of the Regional Conference on Women in Latin America and the Caribbean. At this meeting, the country representatives presented the priority issues and principal tasks which, in their view, needed to be addressed. 1 It was agreed that the technical secretariat of the Regional Conference would prepare and circulate, within one month, a final document for the review and comments of the member. Designed as a road map for the year 2011 with projections to 2012, this Plan of activities is structured around the three types of autonomy (political, physical and economic) recognized by the Gender Equality Observatory for Latin America and the Caribbean. Changing the cultural patterns on which gender inequalities are founded is considered separately, since this objective cuts across all three types of autonomy. The Plan of activities is based on the (2010) and the agreements adopted at the forty-fifth meeting of the Presiding Officers. The exchanges in discussion forums, technical assistance within the framework of South-South cooperation, direct technical assistance to be provided by the Division of ECLAC 2 and coordination of agendas with other bodies are treated as distinct modalities aimed at strengthening the capacities of both the machineries for the advancement of women and the suppliers of information. Another key element is the need to counter the negative impacts of certain recent institutional reforms by strengthening the machineries for the advancement of women politically and institutionally. In the tables below, under each topic of the Plan of activities, the objectives are set out (column 2), the activities proposed are specified (column 3), and the commitments assumed by ECLAC, specifically by the Division, are also listed (column 5). Countries are requested to submit their comments on this proposal and to provide, wherever possible, additional information on the following: specific activities to be carried out by their respective in relation to the objectives and the activity identified at the forty-fifth meeting of the Presiding Officers. Column 4, entitled, has been left blank and is to be used for this purpose; the inputs (reports and national or international meetings) which may be of use in carrying out the activities of the and ECLAC. Another blank column, number 10, entitled Country inputs is for entering information on the inputs. 1 2 In some cases, the topics were identified but no relevant activities were specified, or vice versa. The secretariat proposes therefore a number of topics or activities in this work plan and submits them for approval. The Division will schedule its technical assistance in response to applications made by the ministers. The deadline for reception of the technical assistance application forms was set at 3 March 2011.
