Overview of the ASEAN Community ASEAN Political Security Community (APSC) Ensures that the peoples and Member States of ASEAN live in peace with one another and with the world at large in a just, democratic and harmonious environment. ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Transforms ASEAN into a stable, prosperous, and highly competitive region with equitable economic development, and reduced poverty and socio-economic disparities. ASEAN Socio-Cultural Community (ASCC) Contributes to realising an ASEAN Community that is people-oriented and socially responsible with a view to achieving solidarity and unity among the peoples and Member States of ASEAN. Narrowing the Development Gap (NDG) Progressing together through cooperation in development. Physical, Institutional and People-to-People Connectivity

The Community Building Milestones ASEAN Political-Security Community 1. Ensure that the peoples and Member States of ASEAN live in peace with one another and with the world at large 2. Strengthen the mutually beneficial relations between ASEAN and its Dialogue Partners and friends. 3. Maintains the centrality and proactive role of ASEAN in a regional architecture that is open, transparent and inclusive, while remaining actively engaged, forward-looking and non-discriminatory

ASEAN INITIATIVE ON CULTURE OF PREVENTION ASEAN Declaration on Culture of Prevention (CoP) for a Peaceful, Inclusive, Resilient, Healthy & Harmonious Society is adopted by ASEAN Leaders at 31 st ASEAN Summit on 13 November 2017. 23

ASEAN engagements with Co-operatives ASEAN SECTORAL WORKING GROUP ON AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVES (ASWGAC) Conducting annual reviews of the agricultural cooperatives situation in the ASEAN Developing effective methods of exchange of information including harmonisation policies Identifying areas of cooperation among the AMS as well as with third countries, groups of countries or international agencies. 28

ASEAN engagements with Co-operatives ASEAN Roadmap for Enhancing the Role of Agricultural Cooperatives in the Global Value Chain 2018 2025 The roadmap will focus on the strategy to strengthen cooperation in agriculture cooperatives to enhance competitiveness of agriculture and forest products to facilitate trade within ASEAN and access to the global value chain.

ASEAN engagements with Co-operatives STRATEGIC PLAN OF ACTION (SPA) FOR THE ASEAN COOPERATION IN AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVE (2016-2020) Established business linkages among the potential agricultural cooperatives and farmers organization Promote direct investment and strategic partnership with ASEAN Agricultural cooperatives and farmers organisation, producers, consumer and traders Strengthening the Food Marketing System of Agricultural Cooperatives for Enhancing Food Security in ASEAN. Promote e-commerce for agricultural cooperatives in ASEAN Empowerment of personnel and leaders of agricultural cooperatives Establishment of strategic alliances among agricultural cooperatives in ASEAN

ASEAN engagements with CSOs Forum of Entities Associated with ASEAN 1 st Forum, 4 May 2017 ASEAN Civil Society Conference (ACSC) First held in Malaysia prior to the 11 th ASEAN Summit in 2005

ASEAN engagements with CSOs Article 16 of the ASEAN Charter sets the framework for ASEAN s engagement with entities that support the purposes and principles of the Charter, listed in Annex 2 of the Charter. There are currently sixty-nine (69) Entities Associated with ASEAN registered as Entities associated with ASEAN, classified into 5 groups

Entities associated with ASEAN Parliamentarians and Judiciary : Two (2) entities Business Organisations : Fifteen (15) entities Think Tank and Academic Institutions : Two (2) entities Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) : Forty-three (43) entities Other Stakeholders in ASEAN : Seven (7) entities

Objectives of Accreditation To draw the Entities into the mainstream of ASEAN activities so that they are given opportunity and privilege of participating in ASEAN activities To ensure interaction and fruitful relationships between the existing ASEAN bodies and the Entities To help promote a people-oriented ASEAN Community To build up the ASEAN brand by using the ASEAN name, displaying ASEAN Flag/Emblem, and playing the ASEAN Anthem

Privileges of Entities associated with ASEAN (1) Engage with ASEAN Use the name ASEAN which is protected under Art. 6ter of the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property Submit statements on policy matters to the sectoral bodies through ASEAN Secretariat Submit project proposal for Third party funding to be channeled through the ASEAN Secretariat Initiate programmes of activities to its sectoral body

Privileges of Entities associated with ASEAN (2) Get access to the ASEAN documents for research purposes Use facilities of the ASEAN Secretariat for its official meetings or activities Attend meetings of the sectoral body for consultation on the concern to the Entities Receive annual ASEAN publications by the ASEAN Secretariat

Obligations of Entities associated with ASEAN Endeavour to establish a working link with ASEAN through the ASEAN Secretariat Annual submission of a written summary of activities and financial statement to the CPR through the ASEAN Secretariat
