ASEAN engagements with CSOs Article 16 of the ASEAN Charter sets the framework for ASEAN s engagement with entities that support the purposes and principles of the Charter, listed in Annex 2 of the Charter. There are currently sixty-nine (69) Entities Associated with ASEAN registered as Entities associated with ASEAN, classified into 5 groups
Entities associated with ASEAN Parliamentarians and Judiciary : Two (2) entities Business Organisations : Fifteen (15) entities Think Tank and Academic Institutions : Two (2) entities Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) : Forty-three (43) entities Other Stakeholders in ASEAN : Seven (7) entities
Objectives of Accreditation To draw the Entities into the mainstream of ASEAN activities so that they are given opportunity and privilege of participating in ASEAN activities To ensure interaction and fruitful relationships between the existing ASEAN bodies and the Entities To help promote a people-oriented ASEAN Community To build up the ASEAN brand by using the ASEAN name, displaying ASEAN Flag/Emblem, and playing the ASEAN Anthem
Privileges of Entities associated with ASEAN (1) Engage with ASEAN Use the name ASEAN which is protected under Art. 6ter of the Paris Convention for the Protection of Industrial Property Submit statements on policy matters to the sectoral bodies through ASEAN Secretariat Submit project proposal for Third party funding to be channeled through the ASEAN Secretariat Initiate programmes of activities to its sectoral body
