I SPY: ROTARY Send your pictures to Stan Herrin sherrin@cmtengr.com Spied by Stan Herrin, C ollinsville, IL. DID YOU KNOW? Posted by Stanley Herrin on Oct 14, 2014 As a baby boomer, I was on the tail end of the polio scares. I remember being a kindergartner, standing in line, waiting for a polio shot. Three years later I remember standing in line for a sugar cube with polio vaccine on it. I have two friends that survived polio and met one of my parent s friends who did not. I saw movies about children surviving in iron lungs. But over the years, polio has grown into something I experienced as a child. One of my two friends who had polio as a child has had a relapse and now is wheel chair bound. Last summer, at a Rotary meeting in Dallas, I learned of Paul Alexander who has paralytic polio and has been in an iron lung since 1952. He is one of 10 people in the world who still live in an iron lung. You can read more about Paul s story at these sites: http://www.paulralexander.com and http://www.waxahachietx.com/lifestyle/clubs/surviving-on-kindness-dallas-

Please donate to Rotary s End Polio program, immunizing children so they do not have to spend 60 years in an iron lung.
