Our Ref: 011335/13 Freedom of Information Section Nottinghamshire Police HQ Sherwood Lodge, Arnold Nottingham NG5 8PP Tel: 101 Ext 800 2507 Fax: 0115 967 2896 30 December 2013 Request under the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA) I write in connection with your request for information, which was received by Nottinghamshire Police on 29/11/2013. Following receipt of your request searches were conducted within Nottinghamshire Police to locate the information you require. Please find below answers to your questions:- RESPONSE Under S 1 (1) (a) of the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), I can confirm that Nottinghamshire Police does hold the information you have requested. With regards to the variable speed cameras on the M1 J25 - J28 1. When where these cameras calibrated, what was the method, how often and by who? All the cameras are calibrated annually. The calibration process is carried out by Imtech Traffic and Infra UK Ltd, they issue the calibration certificates. The method is not known by us. 2. How many drivers have been offered speed awareness courses in 2012 and 2013 from information gained from these cameras? In 2012, none, they were not operational. In 2013, 1,086 were offered Speed Awareness Courses.

3. How many prosecutions have been issued from these cameras in 2012 and 2013? 2012 No prosecutions, not operational. 2013, 3,080 Notice of Intended Prosecutions were issued. 4. How many fixed penalty tickets have been issued in this area by traffic officers in the same area J25 - J28 in 2012 and 2013? Nottinghamshire Police have recorded 20 officer detections for driving in excess of 70 mph on motorway in 2012 and 68 officer detections for driving in excess of 70 mph on motorway - we do not store information as to specific location on motorways. 5. How many RTCs have occurred in 2012, 2013 and the 3 years prior to installing these cameras between J25 - J28? We do not hold this information, however we can state that the police only record recordable RTC s so cannot state how many have occurred. 6. How much money does Nottinghamshire Police receive for each referral to AA Drivertech and what was the total received in 2012 and 2013? Referrals are only paid if a course is attended and completed. The referral is technically from NDORS not AADrivetech. The NDORS referral fee is 35.00 In 2012 no referrals made. In 2013 as stated above 1,086 drivers were offered speed awareness courses, however I am unable to state how many actually attended and completed the course without interrogating each individual offence. This would exceed the time limit for FOI. 7. What are the staffing levels for the RPG in 2012 and 2013 compared to the year before the installation of these cameras? There are 18 officers on the Road Crime Unit which are the nearest identifiable officers to a RPG. Nottinghamshire Police technically do not operate a RPG. This is the same for 2012 and 2013. 8. What is the rationale for now allowing these courses to be issued every 3 years? If they are effective why do they need to be repeated? How many people have now attended more than one course? The Speed Awareness Course is a National course developed and monitored by ACPO so I am unable to answer this part of the question. With regards to How many have now attended more than one course we do not hold this information, we can only check to see if someone is eligible. 9. How many fatal or life changing injuries have occurred between J25 and J28 (North and South) over the past 7 years (by year)? Nottinghamshire Police will only hold part of this information as Derbyshire and Leicestershire cover junction 28 and junction 25 respectively. The figures for Nottinghamshire are;

2007 fatalities 2, seriously injured 11, 2008 fatalities 1, seriously injured 7, 2009 fatalities nil, seriously injured 6, 2010 fatalities nil, seriously injured 1, 2011 fatalities 1, seriously injured 3, 2012 fatal nil, serious 9 casualties. 2013 fatal nil, serious 2 casualties.
