2 3 The Plant Biology Europe EPSO/FESPB 2016 Congress, is being jointly hosted by EPSO and FESPB, in the Clarion Congress Hotel Prague on June 26 30, 2016. The European Plant Science Organisation (EPSO) The European Plant Science Organization (EPSO) is an independent academic organization, founded in 2000, with 73 institutional members representing 227 research institutes, universities and research departments from 30 countries with over 28 000 people. EPSO has around 3000 Personal Members and collaborates with ten national learned societies. EPSO s mission is to improve the impact and visibility of plant science in Europe. Top priorities are to facilitate the understanding of plant science, to boost funding for basic and applied research and to coordinate research activities at the national and European levels and beyond. EPSO is a well-established organisation for science and science policy at European level. It is member of several High-Level Groups of the European Commission, Observer to the ERA-CAPS, Founding member of the Initiative for Science in Europe, the Plants for the Future ETP and the Global Plant Council. EPSO is supporting plant science and plant scientists with its conferences, thematic workshops and brainstorm meetings, twelve thematic Working Groups, its website and its bi-monthly newsletter. EPSO initiated and coordinates the International Fascination of Plants Day. The Federation of European Societies of Plant Biology (FESPB) The Federation of European Societies of Plant Biology (formerly the Federation of European Societies of Plant Physiology) was founded in 1978 and today it is Europe s largest and most widely representative society of Plant Scientists. The aims of FESPB are to advance research, education and the exchange of information amongst plant biologists within Europe and beyond, and to support the publication of the results of research through its six affiliated international journals: Journal of Experimental Botany, Journal of Plant Physiology, Plant Physiology and Biochemistry, Physiologia Plantarum, Plant Biology and Functional Plant Biology. In pursuit of these aims, FESPB produces a Newsletter (FESPB Newsletters) that carries information about FESPB and the activities of its members, in addition to job opportunities and studentships and announcements of forthcoming conferences, meetings and workshops arranged by other organizations. FESPB Newsletter is mounted on the web site along with a comprehensive range of other items such as a list of members names and addresses organized by country and details of the various FESPB Committees. www.fespb.org Czech Society of Experimental Plant Biology The Czech Society of Experimental Plant Biology was established in the early 90s in the last century. It followed-up to an earlier long and successful of the Physiological Section of Czech Botanical Society. The research fields included in the focus of CSEPB are not restricted to the pure laboratory or theoretical ones, on the contrary, we welcome colleagues from applied science and field research. CSEPB regularly organizes or co-organizes plant science meetings on national and international level. The most important are international, mainly Czech-Slovak Conferences on Experimental Plant Biology rotating in 3-year intervals in hosting institutions in centers of plant sciences around the Czech Republic and Slovakia. In addition, the CSEPB organizes annual conferences of Ph.D. students of plant biology and symposia on methods in plant biology (Methodical Days). CSEPB publishes journal Bulletin of CSEPB and the Physiological Section of the Slovakian Botanical Society serving as a platform for field information, sharing experience, commemorating important events, personalities of the national plant scientists. In addition, proceedings of the conferences organized by CSEPB are published in the Bulletin CSEPB and PS SBS.
