Alpha Alpha State Convention Second General Session Alumni Ballroom, Nittany Lion Inn State College, Pa June 16, 2013 I. Call to Order Alpha Alpha State President, Louann Shrader called the Second General Session of the 2013 Alpha Alpha State Convention of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International to order at 9:46 a.m. II. Introductions President Louann introduced those seated at the head table: Kay Stuart, Pi, Alpha Alpha State First Vice President; Tracey Dusch, Psi, Alpha Alpha State Second Vice President; Kathy Kuzmiak, Chi, Finance Chairman; Linda O Connor, Omega, Treasurer; Monica Ochoa, International Guest; Amy Miehl, Gamma, Reflection presenter; Pat Crouse, Kappa, Parliamentarian; Pat Shedlock, Nu, Alpha Alpha State Recording Secretary; Barbara Gasperini, Alpha Upsilon, Alpha Alpha State Corresponding Secretary; Susan Scanlan, Keynote Speaker ; and Susan Stamm, Lambda, Immediate Past State President. 1

III. Reflection Amy Miehl, Gamma, presented the Reflection. Her thoughts were on We for others stand, as we reflect on our membership in the Society and our role in helping to strengthen our Society for the future. IV. Roll Call of Chapters Patricia Shedlock, Nu and Alpha Alpha State Recording Secretary conducted the roll call of chapters. Forty three (43) chapters out of fifty eight (58) chapters were present. V. Report of the Convention Registrar Barbara Tobias, Nu and Convention Treasurer reported two hundred (200) members present today. President Louann declared a quorum present for the meeting. VI. Review of the Minutes Patricia Shedlock, Nu and Alpha Alpha State Recording Secretary presented the minutes of the Second General Session of June 10, 2012. Minutes were emailed to the members of the Executive Committee and were posted on the state website. A correction was made to recognize Amy Buddock, Beta Omicron, as the recipient of the 75 th Anniversary Torchbearer Award. President Louann hearing no objections to the minutes declared the Minutes to be filed with the correction noted. The committee to approve the minutes for this meeting is Jeannette Thomas, Beta Theta, Kristine Reynolds, Beta Kappa, and Lois Brown, Chi. 2

VII. Report of the Scholarship Committee Lois Brown, Chairman of the Scholarship Committee announced the committee is awarding two (2) Scholarships and fourteen (14) enrichment grants in the amount of $20,200. Scholarships awarded include: Karen Matis, Alpha Sigma- Past State Presidents Award.$1,500 D. Ed. Curriculum/Instruction, Indiana University, PA Amy Smith, Chi Margaret J. Wolf Scholarship presented by Mrs. Wolf..$2,000 The Marian Spitzer Robling Scholarship had no applicants this year. Enrichment Grants: Barbara Emmer, Psi......$1,600 Travel to SC and GA with Road Scholar Program Nancy Hay, Alpha Delta...$1,000 Colorado studying the Mountain Dulcimer Crystal Header, Kappa. $600 Mission trip to Haiti Phyllis Jenny, Alpha Xi... $1,500 Travel to Hawaii Deborah Kern, Nu.... $700 Travel to Alaska 3

Unfinished Business Kathy Kuzmiak, Finance Chairman, made a motion to approve the 2013-2014 budget for the Alpha Alpha State Organization of the Delta Kappa Gamma Society International. President Louann called for the vote and the motion was successful. She thanked the Finance Committee and Chairman Kathy for her leadership in developing the budget. 4

IX. New Business Carol Hartley, Chi, and Chairman of the State Achievement Award Committee asked for a point of privilege. She requested that the minutes reflect that Doris Gorlitz, Phi, received the 2013 State Achievement Award. President Louann called Kay Stuart to the podium to congratulate her on her election as the next Alpha Alpha State President. Kay gave a preview of the 2013-2015 biennium. President Louann recognized Linda O Connor, Omega Chapter, for her hard work and diligence as Alpha Alpha State s Treasurer for four bienniums. It was noted that Linda enhanced the financial workings of the state and chapters while she served. X. Announcements 1. President Louann reflected on her biennium, thanking chapters for their hospitality as she visited around the state. She expressed her memories of her position as State President in a rhyme Thank You to Alpha Alpha State. 2. Joyce Roof announced the proceeds from the Raffle Baskets. There were 46 baskets contributed raising a total amount of $2,921.00. 3. President Louann asked that a red rose be sent to the following Past State Presidents who could not attend convention this weekend: Shirley Lotz, Alpha Sigma, Dr. Irene Murphy, Beta Delta, E. Margaret Gabel, Beta Theta and Carol Ulrich, Nu. 4. Members were reminded to hand in their evaluation form and the online Keystonian request at the registration table. 5. Those attending the Northeast Regional Convention were asked to sign up for the PA night dinner with Barbara Gasperini. 5

6. Margaret Wolf requested that the gift of a pouring pitcher given to Annabell Hamilton as the First State Achievement Award winner now be the property of Alpha Alpha State. 7. Shirley Newhart led the singing of Traveling Mercies. XI.
