MINUTES SHAWANO CITY-COUNTY LIBRARY BOARD December 18, 2017 Present: Bogacz, Krisy, Dobratz, Roland; Hoeffs, John; Madsen, Tom; Marquardt, Milt; Schuler, Melissa; VanDeLoo, Geri. Others Present: Sharon Beversdorf, Village of Wittenberg; Marsha Hoeffs, City of Shawano; Hauer, Kristie. Location & Time. Shawano City-County Library, 128 S. Sawyer St, Shawano, 1:00p.m. Call to Order. President Hoeffs called the meeting to order at 1:05p.m. Pledge of Allegiance. Pledge of Allegiance was recited. Public Comment. No comments. Approval of Minutes. Minutes approved on motion by Marquardt, seconded by Dobratz. Motion carried by voice vote, all voting aye. Director s Report. Birnamwood librarian has resigned effective 12/31/2017. Meeting with Friends of the Library on 12/20 to determine the projects they will fund in 2018 980 books distributed at Holiday Parade. Total book giveaways for 2018 was over 2100 books. NFLS has hired a new director. Attended Dec 5 meeting to give a member library update. 4 newest Shawano staff toured all the branches. The rest of the Shawano staff toured the branches a couple years ago. Financials. The two cellphone invoices from last month s Paid Invoices list were for 10/6-11/5 and 11/6-12/5. Both were originally listed with incorrect timeframes in the remarks field. Motion made by Marquardt and seconded by Dobratz to approve the financials. Motion carried by voice vote, all voting aye. Service Report. Service report for November presented. Re-fill open positions. Motion was made by Marquardt and seconded by Madsen to approve job personnel action requisitions/authorizations for: 1 28-hour weekly branch manager at Birnamwood/Wittenberg, 1 15-hour weekly library assistant at Birnamwood, 1 18-hour weekly library assistant at Wittenberg, and 20-hour weekly for library pages at the main library. Motion carried by voice vote, all voting aye. Petty cash drawers at Branches. Motion was made by Madsen and seconded by Dobratz to approve petty cash drawers for the branches in these amounts: $25 for Page 2 of 8
Mattoon and $50 each for Birnamwood, Bonduel, Tigerton, and Wittenberg. Motion carried by voice vote, all voting aye. New Business. On December 13, the library was transferred from the City of Shawano to Shawano County. Hoeffs thanked outgoing members of the library board for their service. Adjournment. Budget Amount $ 4326 Actual Expenditure $4326 3. To what extent did the subprogram meet the stated goals and objectives of your 2017 library services grant? Include changes that were necessary to better fulfill the goals. In 2017, Shawano County aimed to use this grant by adding 30-40 titles at each branch location. The total grant was divided equally among the branches (Birnamwood, Bonduel, Mattoon, Tigerton, and Wittenberg). Branch needs vary widely with some focusing more on large print, other adult fiction, and event DVDs. In 2017, 216 items were added to the branch collections through this grant. Page 7 of 8

The funds will be used to update the print nonfiction collections, both adult and children s, at the 6 library locations in Shawano County (Birnamwood, Bonduel, Mattoon, Shawano, Tigerton, and Wittenberg). The nonfiction collections, especially at the branches, are the most outdated collections within the libraries. 2. Goal (s) of the subprogram. To add a minimum of 200 newer nonfiction titles throughout the county libraries. In addition to adding new titles, the collections will also be weeded thoroughly of print items that are no longer relevant. 3.How will you evaluate this subprogram? List measurable objectives. The amount of titles added can be verified through finance records and the library s ILS. Page 8 of 8
