The Viborg-Hurley School Board held their regular meeting on Tuesday, April 15, 2014, in the Viborg building. Members present: Jim Gerdes, Charles Kludt, Peggy Mach, Denise Miller, Scott Vannorsdel President Peggy Mach called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. Motion to adopt the agenda with addition of (12A) Executive Session. Purpose of Executive Session (SDCL 1-25-2.2) Discussing the expulsion, suspension, discipline, assignment of or the educational program of a student: Denise Miller Motion carried: (5=0) Motion to approve board minutes from March 10, 2014: Denise Miller Motion to approve bills: Scott Vannorsdel General Fund Payroll: $ 138,633.24 Special Education Payroll: $9,290.71 Enterprise Fund Payroll: $2,827.80 Total March Payroll: $150,751.75 Motion to approve Business and Financial Reports: Charles Kludt

The Fourth Grade Class attended the Sixth Annual Water Festival Quiz Bowl which was held at USF Campus. The Viborg-Hurley class received $50.00 for Sixth Place in the Quiz Bowl. Congratulations Fourth Graders! The School Board election will be held on the third Tuesday in June; June 17, 2014. The North Area will vote in the Hurley building. South Area will vote in the Viborg city hall. The school board positions currently held by Scott Vannorsdel (North Area), and Denise Miller (South Area) will be up for election. The deadline for filing nominating petitions is 5:00 p.m., on May 9, 2014. The Earl K, Emma V Sorensen Scholarship fund is currently invested through Wells Fargo Advisors, at a rate of.0875%. The closing value as of March 31, 2014 is $113,843.07. The balance of the Earl K, Emma V Sorensen Trust and Agency account as of March 31, 2014 is $12,864.16. Drivers Education will be offered; provided there is enough students enrolled in the program to pay all expenses. Classroom instruction will be held July 23, 24, 25, and July 28, 2014. Approximately twenty students will need to enroll. Checks written to the school for registration will be returned in full if the district fails to have enough participation. Mr. Jim Holderby will be teaching classes. Please direct all questions to Mrs. Hansen. Duel college credits will be available to High School students in the 2014-2015 fiscal year at a reduced cost. Please direct all questions regarding the online classes to Mrs. Hansen. Viborg building phone number is 766-5418, the Hurley building phone number is 238-5221. Mount Marty will also be offering summer courses. Quotes have been received in the business office for water damaged carpet in the library. Mr. Sylliaasen has been reviewing information on the cost to district to update mascots on the two buildings gym floors. Board will discuss further at the May meeting. Contracts for summer custodian positions will be offered to staff members first at $8.75 an hour. If positions are not filled by current staff members, positions will be offered to students at $7.25 an hour. Citizens of the Viborg-Hurley School District have approached the administration with concerns about bullying. There have been meetings held with Middle School staff members and parents. Staff will be watching students in hallways and classrooms closer, and documenting any issues between students. An addition to the 2014-2015 approved Calendar; dismissal at 1:30 p.m. on May 20, 2015. The Cameron Colony Eighth grade graduation will be held on May 15, 2015. Eighth Graders will be recognized at the Spring Concert on May 12, 2015.
