August 2015 Business after Hours Our Business after Hours for this quarter will be held on Wednesday, August 26 from 5:30-7pm. We will highlight three businesses: Kevin Mills, CPA, Rebecca s Revive Therapy, and Lockhart Sports Therapy. All three businesses are located at 1015 San Antonio, Suites A & B. On July 27th, the Lockhart Chamber Board of Directors, staff and ambassadors, along with our friends at the Greater Caldwell County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, joined Fashion Glass & Mirror and staff at their new facility in Lockhart in celebrating their official Grand Opening with a Ribbon Cutting. FGM relocated their manufacturing and distribution center to Caldwell County, investing $4 million in their new facility on 142 and SH130. They've hired 70 employees so far and expect to hire up to 100! Fashion Glass & Mirror is located at 130 S. Cesar Chavez, Northbound. Give them a call for all your glass and mirror needs at (830) 626-0655. Come out and enjoy beverages and appetizers along with an opportunity to win door prizes. This is a great opportunity to network with other local business people in a casual atmosphere after normal business hours. Call the Lockhart Chamber at 512-398-2818 for more details about this and other sponsorship opportunities. 11th Annual Taking Care of Tiny Texans Gala BENEFITING The Seton Edgar B. Report PRESIDENT S Report WELCOME OUR NEW MEMBERS Chateau Homes 1512 Colton Ln., Lockhart 512-300-4445 John Grobelny, Owner/CEO What You Need To Know About Credit Card Changes The EMV payment system is growing in popularity. Chip-based credit card technology is spreading throughout the U.S., and that means business owners need to start thinking about how to best transition to the new system. Even more pressing, starting October 2015, if terminals aren t upgraded, liability for counterfeit fraud will fall on the merchant, in some cases. Broken Fences Entertainment 1416 W San Antonio St., Lockhart (512) 738-0222 Greg Guenther / Anthony Grant, Owners What is EMV? EMV, which stands for Europay, MasterCard and Visa, is a chip-based technology in credit cards that communicates information with the business when a card is inserted at the point of sale. It helps ensure a security framework around card transactions that occur in a face-to-face environment. A circuit is integrated in these cards that is powered by a card reader, as opposed to a magnetic swipe process. The card is inserted into the reader, where it remains until a receipt is printed a change that will require an adjustment on the part of consumers. Creekbottom Music 102 S. Commerce St., Lockhart (512) 398-1999 Randy & Julia Sulsar, Owners Processors have begun to deploy EMV capabilities to their merchants as part of their normal upgrades. We are one of the last industrialized nations in the world to move toward a chip technology structure for payment processing. Of more than 1 billion cards in the U.S., about 20 million EMV cards have been issued. An estimated 20 30 percent of U.S. cardholders are expected to have EMV cards by October; however, to avoid an interruption in commerce, all cards will still contain the ability for magnetic-stripe card processing. The EMV payment system helps protect your business from fraudulent chargebacks. When you should upgrade will depend on a variety of factors, such as how well you know your customers and how many counterfeit chargebacks you currently experience each year.
