Welcome Week Introduction to the Italian National Health System

Art. 32 of the Italian Constitution The Republic holds health as both a fundamental right of individuals and a common interest and therefore guarantees cures to all those who require them. No one an be coerced into being cured except by law. The law may in no case violate the limits inherent in the respect of human rights.

The Inspiring Principle Art. 32 of the Italian Constitution Right to Health Assistance Organisation of Assistance Bill 833 of 1978 Creation of the SSN As of January 1, 1980, health insurance is mandatory for all citizens Art. 1 The Republic safeguards health as a fundamental human right and commont interest through the national health service. The Italian National Health Service (SSN) provides assistance to all citizens without any discrimination in terms of gender, residence, age, income or occupation.

REGISTERING WITH THE NATIONAL HEALTH SERVICE

STUDENTS EU Citizens (including European Economic Area and Switzerland) Documents required to register for the National Health Service WITH Form 106/S1: ID Tax Code Self-certification of residence Form E 106/S1 Certificate of University attendance WITHOUT Form E106/S1: May request voluntary registration to NHS after paying fee for self and family, if applicable.

Alternatively: You can purchase private health insurance coverage with nationally recognised insurance companies

NHS Fees Euro 149,77 - for students Registration is individual and excludes any coverage for family. Euro 387,34 and up - for students with family Students with family are required to pay fees based on their income Voluntary Registration is annual (Validity January 1 December 31).

NHS COVERAGE Free Hospitalisation Medical Visits and Prescriptions (just as for Italian citizens) Assignment to a GP Fees required for NHS are the same as for Italian citizens.

STUDENTS Non-EU Citizens Documents required to register for the National Health Service Payment of Fees for self and family, if applicable Residence Permit for Study Self-certification of residence Tax Code

Students with Residence Permits for Study may voluntarily register to the NHS by paying a 149,77 Fee The registration is individual and does not cover any family. Students with family members, who require NHS coverage, will pay fees based on the income, starting from 387,34 Voluntary Registration is annual (Validity January 1 December 31).

Voluntary Registration always has ANNUAL VALIDITY (independently from the validity of your residence permit Circ. Min. Sal. N DGRUERI/VI/B11494/l.3.b.a/P del 19/07/07) It allows you to: Be transferred abroad for medical reasons Enjoy health services in the European UnionPEA

They must present the forms provided by their country of origin. Health Assistance in Countries with Bilateral Agreements ARGENTINA -(Form I/RA1) Entitled candidates: Citizens of the two countries who receive pensions and their family (only private sector) AUSTRALIA (Medicare) Entitled candidates: Citizens of the two countries who are entitled to health assistance based on relative national health assistance legislation

Health Assistance in Countries with Bilateral Agreements BRAZIL - (Form I/B2) Entitled candidates: Citizens of the two countries who are: Private sector employees Independent workers (farmers, sharecroppers, homesteaders, craftsmen, shop keepers, fishermen) Pension holders (see previous categories) Family members (see previous categories) based on residence legislation. The agreement is not valid for public employees
