Council was reminded that the deadline to submit surveys is November 30, 2008. 6-7 None. MAYOR DAVIDSON STAFF (A) REPORTS 7A-1 08.0798 TU08-02 FRONTAGE ROAD 7A-2 08.0799 DV08-06 1321 QUEEN THAT Council approves Temporary Commercial Use Permit application TU08-02 for property located at 3352 Frontage Road, as recommended in Report DEV 08-132 dated November 10, 2008, from A. Walker, Planner (3020-20/TU08-02). THAT Report DEV 08-133 dated November 12, 2008, from A. Walker, Planner, recommending approval of Development Variance Permit application DV08-06 for property located at 1321 Queen Street, be received; AND THAT Council approve Development Variance Permit application DV08-06 for property located at 1321 Queen Street, provided that: a) the fascia sign is illuminated with lighting that is supported by the Alpine Theme Design Guidelines; and b) the size of the fascia sign is reduced by twenty-five percent (3020-20/DV08-06). Walker, Planner, recommending approval of Development Variance Permit application DV08-07 for property located at 3860 Fourth Avenue, be received; AND THAT Council approve Development Variance Permit application DV08-07 for property located at 3860 Fourth Avenue, provided that: a) there is no freestanding sign on site; b) signs do not protrude past the roofline and are appropriately centered; and c) signs are illuminated with lighting that is supported by the Alpine Theme Design Guidelines (3020-20/DV08-07). THAT Report DEV 08-137 dated November 17, 2008, from M. Allen, Director of Development Services, recommending approval of the Ranger Park to Riverside Campground Sustainability Improvements project for a Towns for Tomorrow grant application, be received; AND THAT Council approve the Ranger Park to Riverside Campground Sustainability Improvements project for a Towns for Tomorrow grant application up to $500,000 with the Town s portion not to exceed $125,000 from the 2009 Debenture Surplus funds, with installation of showers and pumping station as the top priorities and, if any funds remain, that they be used to complete a trail connector along 19 th Avenue to the Campground (1855-04). Regarding Item 7B-1-d), D. Sargent advised that the Crime Prevention through Social Development Committee is actually a Working Group, and not a Committee of Council. WORKSHOPS 15-3 FAREWELL GOODACRE 15-4 BLUE PEARL 15-5 MAYOR- ELECT FARROW Councillor Groves reported that Smithers is one of 187 communities in Canada that will be a 2010 Olympic Torch Celebration Community. The torch will spend the night of Friday, January 30, 2010 in Smithers. A. Hillaby, Director of Recreation, Parks and Culture, reported that the B.C. Recreation and Parks Association s Everybody Gets to Play workshop, held November 21, 2008, was well attended. A basketball coaching clinic was held to help prepare for the Steve Nash Basketball Program being offered in January. Councillor Goodacre congratulated the new Council and thanked current Council and staff. M. Allen, Director of Development Services, advised that he has been attending meetings, on behalf of the Town of Smithers, regarding Blue Pearl Mine (Davidson Project) environmental assessment process, on behalf of the Town. Deputy Mayor Farrow thanked current Council and staff, with special thanks to outgoing Councillors Goodacre and Bucher. He credited Mayor Davidson s leadership for past accomplishments.

C. Northrup reported that there is a lot of excitement over the Olympic Torch announcement and that the Town may get questions from people wanting to know how they can become torchbearers.
