This action was developed after several meetings and reunions, which resulted in significant subsidies for the operation of the Chair in the subsequent period. b) the enlargement of relationships with external partners, leading to the celebration of cooperation conventions. As can be observed in the activities description, this action had resulted in the consolidation and expansion of relations in Brazil, in Mercosul countries and in northern countries, mainly in Europe. The relationship with private social organizations and public sectors linked to embrace areas of the Chair, such as education, health and cooperativism. These actions culminated in the First International Colloquium of the Chair, in July 2003, emphasizing the meetings of Research nets and the installation of the Chair s Consultative Counsel. III. Forthcoming activities a) The main action to be developed corresponds to the definition of an Activity Plan in medium term, combining initiatives in the labor research field, teaching and post graduation, actions directed to the community and cooperation with universities and social institutions. At the same time, its goal is to develop the sharing of activities through the Post Graduation Programs of the Chair. The next activities are previewed for the beginning of 2004 are the following: a) participation in the colloquium Associations et cooperatives face aux marches et aux pouvoirs publics in Paris, January 2004, with presentations from Professors Armando Donida and Luiz Inácio Gaiger; 4

Convention with Institute of Social Studies/Haia, IV. Development prospects The Chair is linked to Unisinos Senior administration, and is supported by six Post Graduation Programs, in permanent structures of different scientific areas. The main strategy to be developed in the years to come corresponds to the intensification of activities shared among these programs, by offering and collaborating in graduation and extension university s activities. During 2004, an Activity Plan at medium term will be elaborated and will be financed through a specific budget endowment from Unisinos and through the multiplication of public and private support funds. In particular, support for the Chair s actions is anticipated from research agencies and inter university cooperation in Brazil. In the ambit of external relations, the main objective will be the institution of new cooperation links with Argentina, Paraguay and Uruguay, especially through other UNESCO Chairs in the region and other universities, especially those belonging to Jesuit Universities from Latin America. A more incorporating participation is anticipated from Mercosul in the Second Colloquium of the Chair, in June 2005. 5
