LOOK AHEAD 10/3/11 Board of Directors Meeting at the PCA 5pm 10/14/11 RSVP for General Meeting via evite 10/18/11 General Meeting, Conference Rooms A and B at BP 11/7/11 Board of Directors Meeting at the PCA 5pm 11/15/11 General Meeting, Conference Rooms A and B at BP From the President by Greg Hobbs, State of Alaska, DNR greg.hobbs@alaska.gov In September, AADE was pleased to represent its members and their efforts with our fundraising activities through our donations to Kid s Kitchen, Bean s Café and Downtown Soup Kitchen. Conoco Phillips recognized the volunteer efforts of their employees to AADE with a $5,000 grant that was distributed to these charities along with $10,000 from AADE to make it possible for each charity to receive $5,000. The representatives from the charities were extremely thankful and it felt good that the corporate and member support of AADE allowed this generous support. The charity presentations were followed by a fantastic presentation by Check 6 on how well defined protocol for organizations allows consistent top performance with high turnover in personnel. I was surprised that we did not have more attendees. To that end, I ask that you all invite others to the meetings and invite co-workers that may not have attended recently. Paul Hanson has done an outstanding job with this month s presentation and forum. A presentation of post Macondo well control training differences will be presented by Dan Gass, an experienced Instructor from Intertek, followed by comments on Alaska regulatory impacts by Commissioner Norman of the AOGCC. A forum will then follow to include the presenters and representatives from BP and Conoco Philllips. I appreciate your attendance to what will surely be an informational event! Lastly, after discussion among the Clay Shoot Committee, it has been decided to hold the event next spring. Available dates for the event this fall were not acceptable. - Greg Hobbs 1/5

Student Section Report by Alex Vaughan, Pioneer Alex.Vaughan@pxd.com Thank-you to Chris Schafer of Halliburton for his recent presentation to UAF. If YOU are interested in presenting at UAF, please read below for details and contact me! Thank-you. The 2011-2012 school season is underway and AADE is again looking for speakers to present at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. A 30-60 minute oilfield related presentation given to 15-30 students and facility is needed every other Friday throughout the fall and spring school season. Presentations should be informal and should have an equally informal question and answer session. The presentation only needs to be oilfield related. We are not looking for any specific topic. Should multiple people want to make presentation covering the same topic we may ask you to choose a different topic to avoid duplication. Food is usually provided as these functions depending on time of day. Please contact me for openings on the presentation calendar and further details if interested. This is a great chance to teach soon to be engineers what actually is happening in the real world. The following unclaimed dates are open. 11-Nov, Mark Wedman: Halliburton 2-Dec, Colin O Farrell: Pioneer 27-Jan 10-Feb 24-Feb 9-Mar 6-Apr 20-Apr Tips From The State by Tom Maunder, Alaska Oil & Gas Conservation Commission Permitting Statistics (as of September 30, 2011) Permits to Drill: 2011-131 2010-145 2009-118 2008-150 Sundry Notices: 2011-306 2010-334 2009-344 2008-352 After Hours Contacts As many of you may know, Winton Aubert is no longer with the Commission and has left Alaska. Guidance Document 10-001 directs after-hours callers to our North Slope Inspection office (659-2714 or pager 659-3607). Most contact is in regards to test witness notifications, but there are calls that involve variance requests and deviations from approved permits that have to be dealt with in short order. Occasionally requests come from the field that involve issues the Inspectors may not be prepared to or able to address. Regardless of the matter, after hours contact should be made with the North Slope Inspectors and then they will contact the appropriate Engineer. During normal business hours for regulatory or 2/5

permitting questions contact the following: Guy Schwartz 793 1226 -- North Slope Tom Maunder 793-1250 Cook Inlet, Geothermal, UIC issues Jim Regg 793-1236 Inspection matters Please note with some issues, it may be necessary for the Engineer to contact a Commissioner for their approval of your request. While the need for some late night or weekend calls is understandable, it will be appreciated if notices and requests can be made during daylight hours to the extent practicable. Please share these tips with others in your organizations that may not be AADE members. Your attention to these matters is appreciated. Contact an AOGCC representative for further information. 3/5
