Statistical data flows on migration processes State Population Register Border Management Information System State Migration Service (asylum seekers) National Security Service Administrative data National Statistical Service of the Republic of Armenia Production of statistical information Dissemination Census, Survey Population Census 2011 Integrated Living Conditions Survey

Data about migration from administrative data sources Person Declares his / her arrival / departure to/from the country Crosses the border, Receives the visa (different duration of staying in the country) Asylum seekers who receive a permission Status of residence for foreigners State Population Register Border Management Information System State Migration Service National Security Service

State Population Register Responsible Visa and Passport department of the Police Strong points Data of the State Population Register have a legal value and are based on the personal documents All persons receive the personal ID Obtained data of citizens of the Republic of Armenia Obtained data of persons declaration of changing of the place of residence Weak points Persons who arrive / departure to / from the country do not declare his / her arrival / departure Persons do not declare the change of place of resident in the country There is no enough motivation for persons to declare their changes of the place of residence

State Population Register Potential Improvements Data on the personal level should help to improve the quality of: Migration statistics; Population statistics. Data on the personal level need for the comparison for two databases: Population Census and State Population Register Need some motivation mechanism for persons to declare his / her change of the place of residents (movements abroad, through the country) Usual Resident Population (Population Census) Citizens of the Republic of the Armenia Registered Population (State Population Register)

Border Management Information System Responsible National Security Service of RA Strong points Obtained data on the personal level (personal ID, sex, age, citizenship and etc.) Obtained data on the all movements in / out of the country. Full-coverage. Obtained data on received visas Weak points Persons have several citizenships, several passport. They can cross the border with different passports Statistics Armenia receives the data on the aggregated level. Not possible to identify the movements of particular person and his / her duration of staying abroad / in the country for longer than 12 months

Border Management Information System Potential Improvements Data on the personal level on the movements of the particular person and its duration of staying could be provided for estimation of number of emigrants and immigrants by different breakdown: age, sex, citizenship and etc. If there is no possibility to obtain the data on the personal level, the aggregated information according to the provided methodology will also help to improved the quality of the data. The data on the movements could be link with the data from State Population Register for identifying persons who declare of the changes of the place of residence.

State Migration Service Strong points Obtained data on the personal level (personal ID, sex, age, citizenship and etc.) Obtained data on the all application of the asylum seekers Weak points???

National Security Service Strong points Obtained data on the personal level (personal ID, sex, age, citizenship and etc.) Obtained data on residency status of the foreigners Weak points???

Integrated Living Conditions Survey The main data sources for estimation migration flows. Questions have been used for identify the emigrant / immigrant person. Strong points Obtained data on the main reason of emigration / immigration, year of the emigration / immigration, employment status. Weak points Sample size of the survey is not enough to have very precise estimates of the emigrants / immigrants by age, sex, more detailed territorial level. Potential Improvements The additional information (from the State Population Register, Border Management Information System) should be used for improvement of the quality of the estimates.

Population Census Strong points Obtained data on the personal level about person s migration experience, age, sex and very detailed information Revised the inter-census data of population and migration statistics Weak points Data available once every ten years
