WISCONSIN BOATING CLUB Membership Meeting December 15, 2018 South Shore Yacht Club, Prior to Christmas Party Commodore, Duane Delaney, called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. No guests were present. Minutes Duane asked if there were any additions or corrections to the November Membership Meeting minutes, that were posted in the Fleet Sheet. There were none. He asked for a motion to accept them as printed. Jim Kaun made the motion, and Todd Memmel seconded. The motion carried. Purser Donna Danowski was not present. Membership and Marketing Travis Sarinske reported that he would send a sign-up sheet around for the upcoming Boat Show. It s a goal to have every time slot filled this year, even if it means taking two or three shifts. Please contact Travis to sign up. Programs Todd Memmel reported that tonight s program would be our Christmas party. // Todd is planning a brown bag gift exchange for January. Bring a $15.00-$20.00 gift either a boating item/accessory, or food/beverages for boating. // Planning a possible movie for February. Cruise Manuals and Advertising Jim Kaun reported that the letters are ready and will go out the first week of January to last year s advertisers. If you know of anyone who might be interested in advertising, please let Jim know. Safety West Marine held a sale on emergency beacons. Grievances None. Fleet Sheet Pete Zierden was absent, but material should be forwarded to him prior to Friday, December 21 st. Legislative Liaison Keith Ponath reported that he attended the LMYA meeting in November in Hammond, Indiana. LMYA is very active. // The Coast Guard is considering removing the aids to navigation and replacing them with electronics. Replacing and maintaining buoys costs $68,000. ETONS are $1.00. // The Coast Guard wants to require canoe, kayak, and paddle board operators to use a leash. When an empty boat or board washes ashore, they re never sure if someone has drowned. // Chart plotters may be required on boats on the Mississippi River. // He said that environmentalists are fighting hard against the tunnel in the Straits of Mackinaw. // Keith explained the concept of a new submarine with a tower, 80% of which is under water. It s unmanned, but acts as a cargo ship. They say it s more effective. // Asian Carp have been found in the Wisconsin River, near Prairie Du Sac. One was on shore, and several were in the water. // The barrier in the Illinois River is five times the original cost. Website Ren reported that the site is up-to-date. He also said that our club now shows up on page 3 of a Google search. Sunshine After attending classes for four years, part-time, Tom Fredrickson is graduating tomorrow (Sunday) from the University of Upper Iowa, with his Bachelor s Degree in Management. Congratulations, Tom! Old Business We held our election of officers. Keith Ponath made a motion to close the election. George Graubner seconded. Duane said that we would officially install them later this evening, at the dinner. No guests were present. Commodore, Duane Delaney, called the meeting to order at 7:15 p.m. Minutes Since the Membership Meeting was held two days prior to this meeting, no minutes had been typed up or reviewed prior to this meeting. There were no additions or corrections to any minutes. Purser: Donna Danowski reported that our beginning balance was $4,783.90. We had no income or expenses. Our ending balance is $4,783.90. Duane asked if there were any additions or corrections to the Purser s Report, and there were none. He asked for a motion to accept the report. Jim Kaun made a motion and Todd Memmel seconded. The motion carried. Membership: Travis Sarinske was absent, but we discussed the Boat Show. If a new member wants to join the club, they can pay half the price of our annual dues ($24.00) if they pay that day. // We also discussed our sign, and how it must reflect that we are not a boat rental organization. Duane suggested that we spend up to $150.00 to change the signage. // We also thought it might be effective to move our chairs forward, and our table further to the back, enabling people to talk more freely. Maybe we should use stools? 3
Programs Todd Memmel reported that January s meeting will be our brown bag gift exchange. See flier for details. The Board also brainstormed, and came up with a list of possible ideas for future meeting programs. Cruise Manuals and Advertising Jim Kaun reported that since a couple of our advertisers still haven t paid, he would tweak their letters, which he plans to mail out in January, and explain their current situation. // Jim would also like to run some of the advertisements that appear in the manual, in the Fleet Sheet.
