Legislative Assembly Province of Alberta No. 37 VOTES AND PROCEEDINGS Third Session Twenty-Fourth Legislature The Speaker took the Chair at 1:30 p.m. Presenting Petitions Tuesday, April 27, 1999 Mr. Stevens, Hon. Member for Calgary-Glenmore, on behalf of Hon. Mr. Havelock, Minister of Justice and Attorney General, presented a petition from 15 Calgary residents requesting increased funding for public and separate schools to levels which will cover increased costs. Dr. Massey, Hon. Member for Edmonton-Mill Woods, presented a petition from 22 Lethbridge, Vulcan and area residents requesting increased funding for public and separate schools to levels which will cover increased costs. Mrs. Soetaert, Hon. Member for Spruce Grove-Sturgeon-St. Albert, presented a petition from 104 Edmonton and area residents requesting increased funding for public and separate schools to levels which will cover increased costs. Mr. Dickson, Hon. Member for Calgary-Buffalo, presented a petition from 97 Albertans requesting increased funding for public and separate schools to levels which will cover increased costs. Mr. White, Hon. Member for Edmonton-Calder, presented a petition from 115 Edmonton and area residents requesting increased funding for public and separate schools to levels which will cover increased costs. 1

Mr. Yankowsky, Hon. Member for Edmonton-Beverly-Clairview, made a statement expressing the concerns of constituents regarding the persecution of Christians in their homeland and the intolerance toward the Christian majority in society. 4

Motions Other Than Government Motions 509. Moved by Mr. Marz: Be it resolved that the Legislative Assembly urge the Government to establish effective accountability measures within the health care system through mechanisms at the point of health service access, involving both the consumer and provider. Pursuant to Standing Order 8(4), the question being put, the motion was agreed to. 510. Moved by Mr. Shariff (amended): Be it resolved that the Legislative Assembly urge the Government to consider establishing a Council of Ministers for Social Issues to coordinate social policy development and delivery, and to consult openly with Albertans about our changing social needs. Pursuant to Standing Order 8(2)(c), debate adjourned, Mrs. Sloan speaking.
