Donald Trump is the Republican frontrunner: bookies give him a one in four chance of becoming the next US president Background Trump is a successful real estate developer and reality television star, who has never held elective office. He announced his candidacy on June 16, 2015. He has argued that his business background make him uniquely qualified to be president. Although many considered his race to be short-lived, Trump has performed outstandingly in the past primaries. On February 28, Trump mentioned he might run as an independent, as he feels the GOP establishment is not treating him fairly. Who wants him to run? His electorate consists mostly of blue collar males, but he appears to run equally well among moderates and conservatives. He has collected 29 endorsements so far, of whom New Jersey governor Chris Christie, senator Jeff Sessions of Alabama, and former Alaska governor Sarah Palin. Donald Trump on the major issues Gun Control Health Care Oppose new restrictions Get rid of Affordable Care Act We already have tremendous regulations. Now, if you look at my opponents, they re very weak on the Second Amendment. I m very, very strong. Repeal and replace with something terrific. Immigrants Deport undocumented immigrants I will build a great, great wall on our southern border, and I will have Mexico pay for that wall. Syria Don t allow refugees If Obama, through his weakness, lets them come in, I m sending them out if I win. Taxes Reduce tax rates We have $2.5 trillion overseas that isn't coming back into this country. So what I'm doing is large tax cuts, especially for the middle class.

Table of contents Introduction The candidates at the start of the primary race The candidates who are still in the running Donald Trump Ted Cruz Marco Rubio John Kasich Ben Carson Super Tuesday Super Saturday Discussion

Senator Ted Cruz has mostly finished third in past primaries, except for Iowa Background Ted Cruz is a senator from Texas of Cuban-American descent. His political experience include deputy assistant attorney general in the Bush administration and Texas solicitor general. As Cruz was born in Canada, questions have been raised over his eligibility to become President. Cruz was one of the main advocates of defunding Obamacare in 2013. Who wants him to run? Cruz is a very conservative candidate and Tea Party favorite. He will get most support from the Catholic bloc of blue collar voters and the evangelical voters in Midwestern states. He has collected 34 endorsements, but there are no senators among them. It is said he has made many opponents in Washington as senator, especially among the Republican establishment. Former Texas governor Rick Perry has endorsed Cruz. Cruz s race expectations according to the opinion polls; Pollster Trump Cruz Rubio Carson Kasich NBC 40 18 21 8 7 CNN 49 15 16 10 6 You/Gov 44 21 17 8 7 Reuters 42 22 13 8 8

Ted Cruz on the major issues Gun Control Health Care Immigrants Syria Oppose new restrictions Get rid of Affordable Care Act Against legalizing undocumented immigrants Allow only Christian refugees You don t get rid of the bad guys by getting rid of our guns. You get rid of the bad guys by using our guns. I intend to make 2016 a referendum on repealing every word of Obamacare and adopting a simple flat tax. President Obama is blatantly defying the Constitution by refusing to faithfully execute our nation s immigration laws. Christians "targeted for genocide should be provided safe haven in the United States. Taxes Support national sales or flat tax Cruz s Simple Flat Tax abolishes the IRS and replaces the byzantine tax code with a simple, fair tax.

Table of contents Introduction The candidates at the start of the primary race The candidates who are still in the running Donald Trump Ted Cruz Marco Rubio John Kasich Ben Carson Super Tuesday Super Saturday Discussion

Senator Marco Rubio is considered to be establishment favorite, however did not perform well on Super Tuesday Background Marco Rubio is a second-generation Cuban-American senator from Florida. His political experience includes former speaker of the Florida House. Rubio is considered to be the mainstream Republican choice. It is said that his Cuban descent has been an influence on conservative immigration reform. Who wants him to run? Rubio is considered to be the mainstream Republican choice. He has collected 167 endorsements so far, the most of the Republican contenders. He has gained important endorsements from South Carolina governor Nikki Haley and senator Tim Scott. Rubio has benefited from the drop-out of establishment rival Jeb Bush. Rubio s race expectations according to the opinion polls; Pollster Trump Cruz Rubio Carson Kasich NBC 40 18 21 8 7 CNN 49 15 16 10 6 You/Gov 44 21 17 8 7 Reuters 42 22 13 8 8

Marco Rubio on the major issues Gun Control Oppose new restrictions Gun laws fail everywhere they re tried. Health Care Immigrants Get rid of Affordable Care Act Path to stay The American people have been forced to be the test subjects of President Obama s one-size-fitsall, big-government experiment, and have paid dearly for it. On politicians who favor a single, sweeping immigration reform bill: "They're delusional." Syria Taxes Don t allow refugees Reduce tax rates You can t pick up the phone and call Syria, and that s one of the reasons why I ve said we won t be able to take more refugees. It s not that we don t want to, it s that we can t. My tax reform gives more to lower earners, percentage-wise

John Kasich has failed to carry one state so far, however due to Rubio s bad Super Tuesday s results, he might gain more popularity Background John Kasich has been the governor of Ohio since 2011. Before that, he was 18 years in Congress. This is not his first presidential bid. Kasich participated in the 2000 primary elections, but did not last until Iowa. As governor he expanded Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act, which could become an obstacle in winning over more ideological voters. Who wants him to run? Kasich draws his support from a mix of moderate and conservative Republicans. He has collected 31 endorsements so far. Trump s race expectations according to the opinion polls; Pollster Trump Cruz Rubio Carson Kasich NBC 40 18 21 8 7 CNN 49 15 16 10 6 You/Gov 44 21 17 8 7 Reuters 42 22 13 8 8

John Kasich on the major issues Gun Control Health Care Oppose new restrictions Get rid of Affordable Care Act I don t think any president can stop mass shootings. I don't support Obamacare. I want to repeal it. Immigrants Syria Path to stay Don t allow refugees If they've been law abiding over a period of time, they ought to be legalized and they ought to be able to stay here. There is no way that we can put any of our people at risk by bringing people in at this point. Taxes Reduce tax rates I've cut taxes more than any sitting governor in this state, 5 billion dollars, including no taxes on small business and killing the death tax.

Table of contents Introduction The candidates at the start of the primary race The candidates who are still in the running Donald Trump Ted Cruz Marco Rubio John Kasich Ben Carson Super Tuesday Super Saturday Discussion

Ben Carson will most likely drop out of the race as he sees no political path forward in his campaign Background Carson is a retired neurosurgeon. Although he lacks political experience, he is a published author and serves on the board of multiple corporations. He has been an outspoken opponent of Obamacare. Although Carson is still in the race he has told supporters he does not see a political path forward in his campaign. Who wants him to run? Carson does not have a consistent voting bloc, his supporters are likely to be split between Cruz, Rubio and Trump. Cruz, who has competed with Carson for the evangelical vote, will probably gain the most when Carson drops out. Trump s race expectations according to the opinion polls; Pollster Trump Cruz Rubio Carson Kasich NBC 40 18 21 8 7 CNN 49 15 16 10 6 You/Gov 44 21 17 8 7 Reuters 42 22 13 8 8

Ben Carson on the major issues Gun Control Health Care Oppose new restrictions Get rid of Affordable Care Act We should never compromise the Second Amendment. Of course, we should be thinking about what we can do to keep dangerous weapons out of the hands of mentally unstable people. We don t want a bunch of bureaucrats dictating to people what they ought to do. Immigrants Path to stay I would secure the borders north, south, east and west. Syria Don t allow refugees To bring Syrian refugees to the U.S. under these circumstances is a suspension of intellect. Taxes Support national sales or flat tax Progressive taxation on the rich - that's socialism
