National Democracy Democracy is an ideal word for any state which provides the freedom of expression to the people and ensues a better nation. It serves as the best power of public, a strength of common man by which he can think individually, express competently, advance towards a goal and expose himself courageously. Democracy secures the rights of people in a way that their perception and suggestions are not bounded or compelled by any one. One may observe, speak, think and write for own free will. Allah Almighty has created every individual with the authority of selection. Man is the deputy of Allah and has a sense of choosing either right or wrong path according to inclination. This perspective supports that every citizen of a nation is spared from all kinds of suppressions, considering to the most important fact, individualism. He demands a set of wholesome rights at all levels which is ultimately the mainstream and true spirit of democracy in an independent state. Sixty four years ago, a separate country appeared on the globe of world, namely Islamic Republic of Pakistan. It was not a mere partition or new state existence; but achievement of an aim, the fruit of tiresome struggles and hard strives, a divinely reward of sacrifices, a dream translated to reality, the truth of a sound passion, a perpetual voice from millions of hearts and a harmony of all heart beats, PAKISTAN. Quied-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah quoted democracy in his golden, unpurchaseable words as: Democracy is in the blood of Muslamans who look upon complete equality of man. I give you an example. Very often when I go to a mosque, my chauffeur stands side by side with me. Muslamans believe in fraternity, equality and liberty. (Speech at Kingsway Hall, London. 14.12.1946) There are no people in the world who are more democratic even in their religion than the Muslamans. (All India Muslim League Session, Lucknow, 1916) It is my belief that our salvation lies in following the golden rules of conduct set for us by our great law giver the Prophet of Islam (Peace Be Upon Him). Let us lay the foundation of our democracy on the basis of the truly Islamic ideals and principles. Our Almighty has taught us that our decisions in the affairs of the state shall be guided by discussions and consultations. (Sibi, 14.02.1948 In fact Quied formed a nation whose roots were founded on Islam and soul of democracy. DEMOCRACY AS A TOOL FOR POVERTY REDUCTION
poverty is one of the major problems and poverty reduction is an important debate. The extreme poverty proves to be an eruption of crime, evils, pessimism and a big hurdle in development of the country. When the social, economic and human rights of a person are snatched, he tacitly becomes a snatcher of the nation; a snatcher of someone else s rights, a grabber, a robber or thief. So when democracy is devastated by repressing the raise of public voices, a nation may tend to weaken in all aspects. Independence of 1947 allots indiscriminate rights to all the people who stand under one flag and on one land. According to equality rules, a poor Pakistani labourer can enjoy the same rights as an elite class Pakistani. By this view point, there is no distinction of status or class, and when it is actually implemented, not only democracy strengthens but our homeland will be an Eden on earth. So I am of the opinion that democracy can be an effective remedy against poverty rather than experimental, outlawed and vague strategies of the government. If the leaders make undisputed pavements of democracy as the way of access for particularly the poor class we can definitely anticipate a financially balanced society. When something is under illegal possession of the rulers, there would be protests, against processions and strikes in the country which demolish the grace of word democracy and lead to a contempt for Government. It is an admitted reality that poor class suffers most in such case, because a poor not only demands the bread for hunger but other rights of life as well. Being an inhabitant of country, he has open choice to caste vote for elections without any enforcement or political stress. ROLE OF YOUTH IN PAKISTANI MODEL OF DEMOCRACY youth of any state is its biggest strength, best weapons and indeed the pillars of nation. Fortunately, Pakistani youth is large in number. They are talented, energetic, lively and confident. The need of the hour is to awake them, unite them and give a positive awareness. Well- educated youth of Pakistan can become a wave of support in promoting the true concept of democracy and can surely be the staunch activists of democratic party. A sensible youngster with sharp faculty of perception observes his surroundings in a natural way, and adjusts his opinions according to the state of mind. The endowment and skills of youngsters if polished with good education, execute healthy minds with optimistic thinking. Young Pakistanis are though brave and vigorous, but as a matter of fact, in spite of knowing their legal actions they often back off in some issues (personal or general), probably due to disappointment caused by the opponent authorities. It is a very discouraging act. Youth and practitioners should be determined to stand against unfair regimes. They must not polarize or split on any emotional basis but work with unity and brotherhood; no matter if they are doctors, engineers, lawyers, students or having any else professional status. Following suggestions are mentioned for the role of youth: Increase of youth literacy rate Youngsters should be introduced to actual democracy under the guidance of authentic scholars. i.e What is democracy? What does it imply? How it is important to citizenship?
Availability of a democratic realm in institutes/organizations and active participation of youth in discussions. Join political arena and work honestly Avoidance of secular youth sects. Coverage and exposure of youth at national level. Getting in touched with the current affairs, news and fresh situations would inform about the happenings around. The youth caravan is like a candle of hope and is expected to take Pakistan among the leading rows of prosperous countries of the world. It can be possible, when we play a patriotic role and co-operate as teamwork. We must be inclined towards one solemn doctrine of democracy, putting aside the provincial, personal or language quarrels. The same resonance of voice of democracy for Punjab, Sindh, Balochistan, N.W.F.P can become a sheer melody of peace, sounding in the latitiude and longitude of country. ROLE OF WOMEN IN PAKISTANI MODEL OF DEMOCRACY Women is the central figure of society and she can peacefully contribute in national democracy by her skills and approach.,. Sustainable democracy requires the contribution of both, men and women in their own ways. Role of a woman begins from the home, where she is a mother, a wife, daughter or sister. Afterwards she is known for a professional or social rank. Woman of 21 st century is well aware of her rights and duties. Prior to all, she deserves respect and care. Unluckily, our male-dominant society humiliates and disgraces the woman. The dignity of a man does not lie in the authority and power given to him but it is appraised by his behavior and regard to opposite gender. Pakistani Woman wants to be an active participant of national democracy, but her personality is distorted by attacks of sexual harassment, mockery and gender inequality. These immoral agendas recess the role of women in national stream. Above all, they have worst effects on her psychological, physical and mental behaviors. A morally and professionally strong woman plays an ideal role in Democracy. She speaks for her due rights either by media or politics and has the ability to withstand opposition parties. She can step ahead as a political leader, speaker of assembly, member of parliament, etc.. The great example is set by Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto who was martyred in struggle for democracy. No doubt her pragmatism, abilities and skills had few parallels in history of Pakistan. women arise is an important aspect in democracy. women s role is appreciative and should be encouraged but not at the cost of her modesty, self-respect and dignity. Democracy of today s Pakistan is in hot water. The reason lies in political hustle bustle, corruption, unsymmetrical governance, social anarchy, public suppressions, injustice, cowardness, usurpation of legal rights, injustice and media misguidance Today one of the burning issues in Pakistan is terrorism. This monster is causing great loss and has engulfed the
peace of country. A frightened nation cannot flourish its democracy. All these factors also deteriorate the infrastructure of a state. Abraham Lincoln defines democracy as: Government of the people, by the people and for the people. In the light of democracy, I recommend the following measures to be taken by government of Pakistan: Designing a proper manifesto for the welfare of people. Hostility to hegemony by both, government and public as the state is Islamic republic. Democracy ideology should not be a lip service. The outright liberty for people in giving speech and recommendations. Safety of life, property and assets of citizens. Freedom of press and journalism (the purposeful and correct use of this freedom must be acknowledged; wrong exploitation of disputed issues by any source of media/communication is abominable.) The right of citizens to take about-turn in their views according to circumstances. For instance, a person may not be restricted to particular opinions in any matter. He can alter those views as desired and change the opinions with varying situations. He can be a supporter of any party in electing the leaders. Establishment of social and political patrons for democracy movements. Revival of Quied-e-azam s strategies. In an Islamic Republic, supreme power is sovereignty of Allah and Government is ruled in the light of ISLAMIC laws by the selected men of public. This assorts the understood principle that power is vested in the people. The major population of Pakistan comprises of Muslims who believe in oneness of Allah, last prophet hood of Hazrat Muhammad(P.B.U.H) and other religious faiths. The requisites of Islamic democracy in Pakistan are: President and prime minister must be Muslim. Pakistani society should be an ideal model of Islamization. Decisions of state must not be controversial to SHARYA. ROLE OF MINORITIES IN PAKISTANI MODEL OF DEMOCRACY Quied-e-azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the first governor general designate of Pakistan was a true guardian of minorities. He struggled for Pakistan and called its inhabitants Pakistanis with no distinction. The great founder of nation never favoured racial or religious differences and in support of his neutral views, emphasized on equality of all. It is indeed a security of rights for minorities who are first human beings, then categorized as some one else. They hold a respectable status as citizens of Pakistan.
Stated below encapsulates some of the opinions: Hindu, Christians, Buddhists and other minorities should understand the worth and utilization of their rights. Participate in casting vote, nullifying the religious prejudices. Get the best education without hesitation. Must not be influenced by extremists part/organizations. Islam is a religion of flexibility and peace which calmly invites the people towards its splendid and blessed path of both worlds. If non-muslims want to accept Islam, they are independent in the decisions and willingness of mind, heart. As state provides rights to minorities, they must not challenge or denounce the Islamic kingdom/teachings.(correct use of democracy is meant). A democratic country tends to progress and prosper rapidly. When even distribution of rights is assured throughout the state, many problems are solved. Every citizen of Pakistan will be loyal and we would be able to stand among developed countries in a short span of time. Let s make Pakistan a place worth-living, an earthly paradise and be passionate to re-build it as a DEMOCRATIC PAKISTAN OF QUIED-E-AZAM. A time has come to pay the debts of blood shed for independence in 1947.!! I certify that the thoughts and ideas that I have presented in this essay are my own. I also certify that all the thoughts and ideas that I presented in this essay were never presented before to any other competition/contest and I strongly discourage plagiarism
