Fire resisting wires and cusm design cables The concept family of wires and cusm design cables is intended for use in extreme environments where high temperature and mechanical resistance are critical. From its original purpose of withstanding the rigours of steel production, the product range has found many uses within safety critical systems as it can continue operate throughout a fire. Whilst the plasticiser in most high-temperature cables will dry out over time, leading operational problems and frequent maintenance shut-downs; the specialised nature of the concept means that this does not happen giving the cable an operational life many times longer than that of conventional cables. rd Party approval The concept has been tested some of the most rigorous cable tests possible, including: IEC 601-1 = 750 o C flame for 90 minutes IEC 601-1 = 80 o C flame with shock for 10 minutes BS 687:199 W Cl. 11. = 650 o C flame with water spray IEC 60-- (Cat C) EN 5000 - PH10 RV and RVH The cores in the product range provide mechanial ughness and fire resistance whilst also offering bold colours and the ability be produced in sizes up 70 mm on request. In addition, the RVH concept improves upon the original with a completely halogen free solution. Also available up 70 mm on request. Cusm design As with most our products, the range of wires can be made in an endless variety of cusm designed cables which continue the concept throughout the construction. Due the extremely high mechanical and temperature resistance of this concept, experience has shown that it often does not need any other form of protective enclosure, but can be installed completely exposed. This makes installation quicker, as well as making visual inspection of the cable easier, particuarly when evaluating the cable post-fire. With so many possible combinations of size, colour, number of cores, screening, armouring etc., designs are tailored each cusmer. Please contact a Habia representative for further information. 0

Materials // Insulation and sheath information Both RV and RVH constructions offer excellent performance when it comes fire-survivability; however there are differences with regard the other properties of the materials. In order help with the selection and choose the product that is most suitable for your application, Habia offers a clear comparison of the key strengths and weaknesses of the materials that affect the performance of the products. Information is compiled from what are believed be authoritative sources and/or independent testing of material samples and knowledge of the relevant compounds. RV The original, and still the best when it comes fire-survivability. Although both RV and RVH cables are extremely effective, it is the RV insulation / sheath construction which has the edge with regard temperature rating, fire and chemical resistance. RVH Where the RVH comes in its own is with regard the chemicals released under fire conditions. As a halogen free concept, the corrosivity and xicity levels of this design make it the more suitable choice in populated areas. It is also the preferred option for use in radiation. Although the mechanical perforamance presented here should remain relatively unchanged for all dielectric types, it is important note that there may be some subtle variations between the solid and profiled dielectric properties.
