Role of the S&R Section In support to the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General (DSRSG), Resident Coordinator (RC) and Humanitarian Coordinator (HC) in her responsibilities to lead the United Nations contribution to Mali s reconstruction efforts, the Stabilization & Recovery section (S&R) promotes synergies between MINUSMA, the UN Country Team and other international partners.. Respectively on 8 and 6 November, new projects were launched in region. The first project aims socio-economic recovery for 90 women of Tessalit and in the areas of gardening and handicraft, a amounting 6,0.96 USD. http://bit.ly/h7hhpt The second one foresees the rehabilitation of schools in Tessalit Cercle, a Trust Fund project sponsored by MINUSMA Civil Affairs Division and supported through the Danish contribution to Trust Fund for,8 USD. Aiming at promoting social cohesion, community support and peace restoration, the initiative is implemented in Tessalit by the Association pour le Renouveau du Développement Local (ARDL), in Aguelhok by the Conseil d Appui au Monde Rural (CAMR), and in Talabite by Assahsal NGO. http://bit.ly/gcrrkm Bamako. The intended audience is the section s main partners including MINUSMA military and civilian components, UNCT and international partners. On 9 and 0 November, UNPOL inaugurated 7 s in region, including destined to local communities: the rehabilitation and equipment of Somadougou Townhall and a water drilling in Kendé. The other initiatives consist in the rehabilitation and equipment of Sévaré Police Commissariat, Douentza Gendarmerie and Protection Civile, the construction of a Police Station in Fatoma and the rehabilitation of Djenné Garde Nationale. These projects amount to a total budget over 0,000 USD. http://bit.ly/ghwfvi. On 0 November, took place the official handover of the sheep breeding programme in Sévaré Prison. The ceremony was presided by region Governor in the presence of local authorities, security institutions and human rights associations. This,9 USD Trust Fund project was made possible thanks to the contribution of Denmark. The aim is to offer the opportunity for 0 detainees every quarter to be trained in sheep breeding techniques and organic production, but also to provide 90 heads of sheep which will be sold to the population. http://bit.ly/g8nh

# November 06 Timbuktu - Taoudenit. On November, MINUSMA Civil-Military Coordination (CIMIC) officially handed over sports equipment to the Regional Direction of Youth and Sports in Timbuktu in the frame of a Quick Impact Project benefitting 000 youths including 00 girls.. On 0 November, the project Access to essential quality medicines for populations in difficult situation was officially launched in the presence of the Vice-President of the Regional Council and CIMIC, which is sponsoring the initiative. Through this project of almost 0,000 USD budget, the Mission will provide essential medicines to at least Community Health Centers in Agouni, Ber, Aglal, Erunthedieft and Nibkit Elik, and train the local medical staff in the prescription and use of the treatments provided. http://bit.ly/h6bxmy. On 9 November, an important delegation headed to Timbuktu, including the Minister of Justice, Mr. Mamadou Ismaël Konaté, the Ambassadors of Denmark and the Netherlands, the Adviser for Mali at the Embassy of Norway in Ghana and the Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General, Resident Coordination and Humanitarian Coordinator (DSRSG/RC/HC). The aim of the high-level visit was to officially launch and hand over major projects to local authorities and communities. This involved projects funded through the Trust Fund in support of Peace and Security in Mali:. Presentation of 000 solar household kits (approx. 600,000 USD through the contribution of Denmark),. Launch of two Solar kits prisoner-reinsertion projects at the Maison d Arrêt et de Correction de Tombouctou (approx. 0,000 USD through the contribution of Denmark),. Launch of the FAMA checkpoints reinforcement project (approx. 00,000 USD through the contribution of Norway). Other infrastructures inaugurated on this occasion included the Centre d Accès au Droit et à la Justice (CADJ a project led by UNDP and funded by the Netherlands) and the security reinforcement of the Maison d Arrêt (a project led by UNDP and funded by Norway). On November, s were officially handed over in Timbuktu in the presence of the Governor, the President of the Regional Council and directors of security institutions. Projects respectively consisted in the rehabilitation and equipment of Direction Régionale de la Protection Civile de Tombouctou (for,7.8 USD) and in the provision of motorboats for the Gendarmerie brigades of Timbuktu, Diré, Tonka, Niafunké and Gourma-Rharous (for 8,76.9 USD). On November, the newly equipped and electrified literacy center was inaugurated in the Château neighborhood of Gao, in presence of authorities and MINUSMA Head of Regional Office. This project is sponsored by the Civil Affairs Division for,. USD, implemented by the Association pour l Alphabétisation en Langue Songhay et Tamasheq (A.A.L.S.T.) and benefits to 8 persons, in an area where 80% of the population is illiterate. http://bit.ly/h60fq. On November, the Trust Fund project Water drainage system in Gao was launched in the presence of the Governor of Gao Region, MINUSMA Head of Regional Office as well as regional directors of technical services, local and traditional authorities and residents of the sector III of Gao town. This project, funded by Denmark through the Trust Fund at the amount of 6,9 USD, will improve the living conditions of Gao inhabitants and in particular prevent frequent flooding thanks to the the rehabilitation of infrastructures facilitating the evacuation of rain water to the river. http://bit.ly/h9tv. On 8 November, a joint MINUSMA mission went to Bourem in order to hold an inclusive dialogue with inhabitants, community leaders and representatives of armed groups and present the mandate of the Mission. Discussions focused on ongoing stabilization projects in the area (CVR Community Violence Reduction, s and Trust Fund), the progress made in the peace process, the crucial participation of the population in future stabilization initiatives and priority needs of communities. The mission was also an opportunity to visit ongoing projects in Bourem Cercle and conduct an assessment for potential interventions.. On 9 November, official handover of 000 solar household kits took place in the presence of Gao Governor and other regional authorities. In the frame of Trust Fund projects for a total of 6,6 USD, the initiative benefits,000 persons in the Cercles of Gao, Ansongo, Menaka and Bourem.. Fuel support for Malian security forces (MSF) in Gao is ongoing since 0 October 06, under the supervision of United Nations Police. Between 0 October and 0 November 06, 67,00 liters of fuel were provided to Police, Gendarmerie, Garde Nationale and Protection Civile, which intensified patrolling in the Cité des Askia. Culture. From 6 to 7 November, MINUSMA Culture Unit and UNPOL participated in a training with the Malian customs, security and armed forces on cultural heritage protection in the event of armed conflicts (UNESCO Convention of 9). This session was organized in the National Museum by the Ministry of Culture and UNESCO and resulted in a commitment project document of Malian security institutions for the protection of cultural properties in the event of armed conflicts. During the session, the Culture Unit and UNESCO office in Mali shared their experience of training MINUSMA staff on cultural heritage protection since October 0. From October 0 to November 06, nearly 800 MINUSMA staff including military, civilian and police have been trained on cultural heritage protection in Mali.. MINUSMA provided support to the organization of the International Conference of Writers, Reporters and Traditional Communicators, held by PEN Mali/ Mali Valeurs from 9 November to December and focused on violent extremism. The aim of this gathering of Malian and foreign experts was to share experiences, understand causes of violent extremism in order to confront its risks and inspire public strategies. Writers from Bourem and Timbuktu took part in this dialogue thanks to MINUSMA support.

# November 06 Peacebuilding Fund in Mali - Overview For more information - Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) Unit: guissekaspar@un.org To deal with the political, institutional and security crisis that deeply destabilized Mali since 0, the Malian Government and the United Nations System in Mali resorted to the Peacebuilding Fund (PBF) in order to support peacebuilding and reconciliation. The Government of Mali submitted an eligibility request to the Peacebuilding Support Office (PBSO) on th of February 0 which was approved by Secretary- General of the United Nations on nd of April 0. In this context, the intervention of the PBF programme in Mali represents in its first phase 0.9 million USD, of which 0.6 have been attributed to projects undertaken by UN agencies and MINUSMA. A Steering Committee oversees the whole programme and gathers the Malian Government, the civil society, international donors and the United Nations. The remaining 0. million USD goes to the Steering Committee Support Office.
