SCHOOL HAPPENINGS Winter MAP Our winter MAP scores showed that our students are growing at similar rates as they have in the past. Our Kindergarten students are outperforming their previous scores, while our first graders did not grow as much as they have in the past. Although 1 st grade didn t grow as much, they are actually the highest performing students overall in the school. Brother to Brother One of our Extended Day programs, Brother to Brother, is bringing in successful African American males to speak to our young men about how hard work pays off. It has been a hugely popular program and we re excited about all of the community connections our students are making! African American History Month We re excited to have all of our grades studying and celebrating the contribution of African Americans to our country s history. From learning about African Americans in science and African American community helpers, to studying the civil rights movement, our students are growing their brains! Academic Magnet Tutoring Program This quarter, we launched a tutoring program with students from Academic Magnet High School. The program was conceived of and designed by the high school students. They are working two days a week with our 2 nd and 3 rd grade students on math and reading enrichment.
