Thailand Visa Guide Now that you have secured your internship, this guide will walk you through the visa application process and all other legal documents you may need. Visa Application General 1. About the visa: a) Type of visa You will be applying for a non-immigrant visa type ED Single Entry that stands for Educational visa. We recommend Single Entry because 99% of the time, ED visa is given a Single Entry. If you need to leave Thailand during your internship, at the airport, when going through immigration please request the officer for a re entry on your visa, it will cost you 1,000 THB. The following link has all the details: http://thailatinamerica.net/mexico/images/nm_ed.pdf b) Visa Eligibility for ED visa To apply for a visa, a foreigner must: Possess a valid passport or travel document that is recognized by the Royal Thai Government. Have a Support Letter from your University stating that the internship is part of his/her studies In addition, the visa applicant must be outside of Thailand at the time of application. c) Validity of Visa The validity of a visa is for 3 months initially and will be extended every 90 days while in Thailand or in a neighboring country. The maximum stay is for 12 months. The validity of a visa is granted is displayed on a visa sticker and arrival stamps. d) Processing Time You can apply from up to 3 months before the intended arriving date to Thailand. It takes 2-4 business days for your visa to be processed once your application is submitted. For the applications received via mail (DHL), please bear in mind the time for the package to be delivered and sent back to the applicant. The Thai embassy recommends people apply between 15 30 days before the planned arrival date. e) Visa Fee The cost is 2,000 Baht (80 USD) for single entry. For Non-ED visa, multiple-entry visa is not allowed.
2. Applying for your visa: (to be done in your home country) a) Prepare the visa documents: # Document: Type 1 1.2 2 3 4 6 Provided by the intern: Filled out and verified as correct Visa Application Form (using the right country application form) find it on your home country s Thai embassy website Photograph (6 copies of size: 4 x 6 cm) & (6 copies of size: 3 x 4 cm) with white background and formal non-white shirt. Bring all the photos with you to Thailand. Passport with validity no less than 6-months AFTER the scheduled internship end date University Support Letter (2 original copies for 6 months internship / 4 original copies for 12 months internship). We will prepare the format. Needs to be signed and stamped by your University. Proof of adequate finances Bank Statement of the student or his/her parents with a minimum of 700 USD balance in the last calendar month. If the Bank Statement is under the parents name, please add: Scanned copy of the ID card with signature of the parent who is providing the Bank Statement Birth Certificate of the student needs to be presented Economic Letter - we will prepare the format. Needs to be signed by the person providing the Bank Statement. Valid University ID showing your name and, ideally, that you are a current student Color & Copy signed 7 One-way Flight Ticket showing your name and flight information Check embassy requirement 7 8 Provided by host company and WWI: Internship Company Contract - including the training plan; signed by host company and intern. An Invitation Letter from the host company addressed to the Consulate and stating the objective of the visit to Thailand 9 Copy of ID or Passport of the person signing the official invitation letter on host company s behalf (signature must be certified by stamp or handwritten with original signature) [in Thai] 10 Copy of Business Registration of the host company in Thailand [in Thai] 11 Copy of Business License [in Thai]
12 Copy of the List of Shareholders [in Thai] 13 Copy of Map indicating location of the company [in Thai] 14 Copy of Tax registration certificate (Por Por 20) [in Thai] 15 Copy of Financial Audit report (Balance sheet, statement of income taxes and business taxes Por Ngor Dor 50 & Por Por 30 of the latest year) [in Thai] b) Apply for your visa: C1: Print your documents: Once we have reviewed your visa application documents, we will send you a link via Podio for printing C2: Payment: Make your payment at the embassy when submitting your application. C3: Apply at your local Embassy: Contact your Support Coordinator if you need help finding the nearest Thai embassy to you. Important notes: Please keep every original copy of the documents submitted and bring them with you to Thailand. You will need original documents to apply for Work Permit and Visa Extension. (University Support Letter, Host Company Contract, Photographs, etc.) Once you have your visa 1. Take a photo of your visa and send it to us via Podio to verify you got the correct visa type 2. Prepare for your arrival: Book your Arrival Call at: www.worldwideinternships.org/support We will explain to you in detail about your airport pick-up, arrival, housing, packing, flights, evaluations, and local support.
Once you arrive in Thailand You will need to remember these 4 important steps In case your internship is not in Bangkok, we highly recommend you to spend 2-3 days in Bangkok to do the following: 1. Send us a scan/photograph or your Arrival Stamp and your Departure Card Arrival Stamp looks like this: Important: The Departure Card is given to you at the airport, remember to keep your Departure Card safe, staple it to your passport. Do not fill in the departure card until you are flying out of the country. Please note, that there are penalties if the departure card is lost. Orientation/ Welcome Lunch Depending on your arrival date, we will assign you to join us for your Orientation & Welcome Lunch on the closest Monday. This is held once a week, you will be able to meet other interns arriving on the same week as you.
Reference Letter issued by home country s Embassy in Thailand You will need to stopover in Bangkok for a few days to visit your home country s embassy to pick up a Reference Letter acknowledging your internship in Thailand. Please make sure you book your appointment with your embassy before you depart and make sure to find out exactly what documents are needed to be issued the reference letter. The letter will be used for your visa extension in Thailand after your first 3 months We can assist you with preparing your documents for the embassy appointment, contact your support coordinator for assistance. Medical Check-up Needs to be done at a local Thai Hospital/Clinic You will need this certificate to apply for your work permit Costs around 600-1,500 THB (20-45 USD) If you are outside of Bangkok, the hotel will guide you through this process If you are in Bangkok, we recommend these 2 hospitals: 1. https://www.bch.in.th/en/ (we recommend this, it is just 800 THB) 2. www.bnhhospital.com/medical-service/advance-diagnostic-centre/ After you start your internship 1. Work Permit - in the first month: The host company will process your work permit during your first month They will need your passport, please give it to your HR on your first day Costs 1,500 THB for 6 months // 3,000 THB for 12 months o In most cases, this is paid for by the host company 2. Please keep track of your own visa expiration dates (Make sure to alert your Support Coordinator & HR at least 2 weeks before the expiration date for assistance) 3. Visa Re-application - To be done every 90 days if unable to extend in Thailand If you are unable to get your Reference Letter from your embassy in Thailand, you will need to re-apply for your visa at a neighboring country.
