Kentucky Gas Association Education Committee November 5, 2018 The four hundred eighty-eighth consecutive monthly meeting of the Kentucky Gas Association Education Committee was held on Monday, November 5, 2018, at 3:30 P.M., EST, at Somerset City Hall, 306 E. Mt. Vernon Street, Somerset, Kentucky. Members in Attendance 1. Joy Carroll Somerset Gas Service 2. Mike Coleman Atmos Energy 3. Melissa Holbrook Kentucky Public Service Commission 4. Nancy Morton Kentucky Gas Association 5. Mary Virginia Rupard Delta Natural Gas Company 6. Earl Taylor RussMar Utility Management Committee Chair, Mary Virginia Rupard called the meeting to order. Nancy Morton recorded the meeting minutes. Mary Virginia welcomed everyone and thanked them for coming and expressed appreciation to Joy Carroll and the City of Somerset for hosting the meeting. Antitrust Warning Nancy Morton reviewed the Antitrust Warning with the Committee. Minutes of the Previous Meeting Minutes of the October 1, 2018, Education Committee meeting were distributed to all those in attendance. A motion to accept the October meeting minutes as written by Joy Carroll was seconded by Mike Coleman. The motion passed. Treasurer's Report Copies of the October 2018 financial report were distributed to those in attendance. It was reported that during the month of October the Committee had a total income of $7,575.00 and a total expense of $11,753.94 for a net loss of $4,178.94. The report showed a year-to-date income of $26,350.00 and a year to date expense of $12,655.73 for a net gain of $13,694.27. A motion to accept the October 2018 Treasurer s Report by Melissa Holbrook was seconded by Mike Coleman. The motion passed. 2018 Showcase Report 10/2 & 3/18 Embassy Suites, Lexington, Kentucky The 2018 Showcase was considered a success with 74 individuals participating including displaying vendors. At the October meeting the Education Committee agreed to change the name of the Showcase to the Fall Expo. The March Expo would be identified as the Spring Expo. Nancy reported she had met with the O&E and M&R Committee since that
decision. The M&R Committee was not in favor of the name change. They felt it would prompt confusion rather than alleviate it. After a brief discussion, the EC was in agreement to retain Showcase as the official name of the fall event. In an effort to stay away from Fall Break, Nancy will look at Tuesday and Wednesday, October 29 and 30, 2019, in the Lexington area for the 4 th Annual Showcase. The Education Committee will meet on Monday, October 28, 2019. 2018 Fire School Update 12/5/18 Lexington Fire Department Training Academy Nancy Morton reported 17 individuals had pre-registered for the Fire School. Individuals committed to helping in the afternoon are: Ryan Twait Phil Gregory Earl Taylor 2019 NFPA Code School Update 2/5-7/19 Marriott Griffin Gate Resort, Lexington, Kentucky Plans are on schedule for the NFPA Code School. The class size will be limited to 25. A class size up to 20 will have one instructor. A class size of 20-25 will require two instructors. The notice would state that if interest in registration exceeds the class limit, the class will be repeated in August, also in Lexington. Brent Hensley will be the primary instructor with Jeff Simms as the assistant if the class size warrants. Instructors will be identified in the Code School emails and hardcopy mailout. The Education Committee will meet on Monday, February 4 th at 3:30 P.M., EST at the Marriott. 2019 Gas 101 Training for Mayors Update 5/7/19 Lexington, Kentucky After a brief discussion, the Committee moved to alternate the Gas 101 and Small Operator Training with each being offered every other year in May in the Lexington area. May 2019 will be PSC Gas 101 Training for Mayors, Council Members, and City Managers. The Education Committee will meet on Monday, May 6, 2019. 2019 PHMSA T&Q Seminar Update 9/17-18/19 Holiday Inn Cincinnati Airport, Erlanger, Kentucky Plans are on schedule for the 2019 PHMSA T&Q Pipeline Safety Seminar that is conducted every three years. The contract had been signed with the Holiday Inn at the Cincinnati Airport in Erlanger, Kentucky. Old Business New Website Nancy reported the following description of the Education Committee has been submitted to the website design and development firm. The Education Committee is the second longest standing Committee in the Kentucky Gas Association. It was organized 41 years ago with their inaugural meeting being held April 21, 1977. The Education Committee was originally made up of gas company executives who had a vision of providing much needed training to gas company employees that was reasonably priced and conducted at convenient locations across the state. That vision still continues today. Currently Committee members are representatives from gas companies, municipalities, state regulators, contractors and vendors. The Committee meets monthly to determine the current training needs of natural gas industry employees and the most effective way to meet those needs. Training currently provided by the Education Committee includes: NFPA 54 Code School Gas 101 Training for Mayors, Council Members and City Managers Municipal and Small Operators Training for Field Personnel KYPSC/PHMSA T&Q Seminar Showcase Fire School If you have a passion for safety and training, come join our Committee! We are always open to new members and new ideas. New Business No New Business was discussed. Next Meeting Date and Location The next meeting of the KGA Education Committee is scheduled for Wednesday, December 5, 2018, at 3:30 P.M., EST, at the Lexington Fire Department Training Academy, 1375 Old Frankfort Pike, Lexington, Kentucky following the Fire School.
