We have been fortunate to receive some rain, and even more fortunate that it has been a manageable amount. At the same time, it is important to remember that we are currently in the middle of the peak of El Nino, and many more storms are expected to come. With that said, I would like to remind you to be mindful of the possible hazards that rain can bring. Make sure that you report any flooding to the City by calling 408-794-1900. In addition, sandbags are available at several different sites throughout the city, and you can find a list of locations on the City s website. In closing, I would like to remind you all that February is African- American History Month. Also, Happy Valentines Day and happy Lunar New Year from the District 4 team and I! If you have any questions, comments or concerns that you would like to share with my office, I encourage you to call us at (408) 535-4904 or email district4@sanjoseca.gov. Famed playwright, director and producer Luis Valdez s sweeping epic illustrates the ironic divide between America s ideals and its actions in what the San Jose Mercury News says is a "multicultural touchstone," and of which the Los Angeles Times says "We need memory plays as powerful as this one... a quintessentially California play, written by a master of the genre."

Recent Events VOLUME 2 ISSUE 2 RECENT EVENTS - PAGE 8 On Saturday, January 9th, my office held a neighborhood clean-up event for the Vinci Park South Neighborhood. With the help of Mayor Sam Liccardo and several dedicated volunteers, we were able to help residents from this neighborhood start spring cleaning early. We filled up 8 full-sized dumpsters in 4 hours. It s always an honor for me to have the opportunity to help my constituents. My office will be holding more neighborhood clean-ups for other neighborhoods in District 4 in the coming months.

Berryessa Coldwell Banker Berryessa Citizens Advisory Council Monday December 14th 7:00PM Berryessa Community Center I was proud to join Valley Transit Authority today for the opening of the pilot program for VTA FLEX. VTA FLEX represents the best in public transit innovation. FLEX addresses a major challenge for our public transit system, the last mile between existing public transit stops and our homes and offices. River Oaks Neighborhood Association Wednesday December 2nd 7:00PM Premier Pizza NextDoor Meeting - Date Will Be Posted Online FLEX provides a transit option specifically designed to address this last mile. With FLEX, VTA will provide an on-demand service to transport people who live and work in North San José quickly between different FLEX service stops. I hope that this pilot will be successful and that VTA FLEX will have many happy customers in a few months.

Recent Events VOLUME 2 ISSUE 2 RECENT EVENTS - PAGE 10 On Monday, January 25th, my office held our 2nd El Niño Community Preparedness meeting for the people of Alviso. Alviso sits roughly 13 feet below sea level and has seen severe flooding during previous El Niños, especially during the rainy season of 1983. My office has been working hard in collaboration with the Mayor and other City Officials to make sure that the City is doing everything it can to keep Alviso from flooding.

Walk by Plaza de Cesar Chavez, you ll come across new turf that s being installed and lanterns going up that will soon illuminate the historic park at night. Drive by Mineta San José International Airport and, overnight, super-sized signs have sprung up, welcoming travelers to the region. While the 2016 Super Bowl will take place at nearby Levi s Stadium on Sunday, February 7, San José is one of three Super Bowl 50 venue cities, with the others being San Francisco and Santa Clara. San José s also hosting the NFC Champion team and practice venue. It s also the site of Super Bowl Opening Night Fueled by Gatorade at SAP Center, an event that brings together players and coaches from the two champion teams, attracting more than 5,000 journalists from around the world. San José s about to become SB50 central with Super Community Events such as SoFA s Winter Market and Downtown Ice as well as other visitor amenities such as an NFL store and the It s Happening!
