ON THE 16TH DAY OF MAY, 2017. The meeting was called to order at 7:07 p.m. Upon roll being called, the following members answered present: President Shelly Camden, Vice President Rich Brandeis, Secretary Steve Alavi, Member Kent Absalonsen, Member Alice Esposito, Member Jeff McCollian and Member Michael Ockrim (arrived 7:22 P.M.). Also in attendance: Kerry J. Retirees, Maggie Costantini, Mary Beth Elgass, Sue Kelsey, Pam Nosbisch and Wayne Ostrowski (Marianne Tamosaitis and Maureen Walsh were unable to attend) were each presented with a gift from the Board of Education and each were given an opportunity to say a few words. Superintendent Foderaro stated that the Foundation Golf Outing is scheduled for Friday, June 9. B. Cass School District 63 Parent Teacher Club (PTC) Report There was no report C. Fine Arts Boosters (FAB) Report There was no report D. Administrators Reports English Language Learner (ELL) Teachers Filomena DeChiara, Katie Doyle and Anya Schlottmann, gave a presentation on the ELL Services offered at Cass School District 63. At this time, 119 students are receiving services throughout Cass School District 63 including 41% of our Prekindergarten Students. Superintendent Foderaro stated that Eighth Grade Graduation is scheduled for June 1 and invited all Board Members to attend. OLD BUSINESS A. Discussion of Board of Education Committees Christine Marcinkewicz stated that the Community Connections Newsletter will be going to print later this week. Finance Committee Chairperson, Steve Alavi, announced that the next Finance Committee Meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 12, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. B. Discussion and Possible Action on Exterior Renovation Work at Concord Elementary School and Cass Junior High School Superintendent Foderaro reviewed the bids presented. The lowest base bid to Page 5

complete the exterior work on both buildings is $367,000. The combined bids of the roof along with this remaining exterior work put the total amount needed to complete the defined work is approximately $70,000 over what was budgeted. Because it is likely that holding off on the remaining exterior renovation would cost the District more, the Administration recommended that the Board approve the work to be completed this summer. moved and seconded a motion to accept the bid of $367,000 by R.L. Sohol General Contractor of Plainfield, Illinois for the planned exterior renovation work at both Concord Elementary School and Cass Junior High School as presented. Vice President Brandeis Motion carried, 7 to 0. Vice President Brandeis left the meeting at 8:40 p.m. NEW BUSINESS A. Discussion and Possible Action on Intergovernmental Agreement for Transportation Management Services Superintendent Foderaro reviewed the Intergovernmental Agreement that if approved, would allow Cass School District 63 to share the services of a Transportation Director with Center Cass School District 66. While it is expected that there may be some transitional challenges during the first year, this agreement will generate a cost savings for the District next year and beyond. Page 6

There is also a possibility that in the future other school districts will join, which could generate a greater savings. moved and seconded a motion to approve the Intergovernmental Agreement with Center Cass School District 66 for Transportation Management Services as presented. Motion carried, 6 to 0. B. Discussion and Possible Action on Public Notice of Tentative Amended Fiscal Year 2017 Budget Superintendent Foderaro explained that due to the District s fall bond refinancing, an overrun in Special Education and Teacher Retirement System (TRS) costs, Director of Fiscal Services Robert Strande recommends that the Board submit an Amended Budget to the Illinois State Board of Education. Superintendent Foderaro stated that before the Board is able to act on the Amended Budget, the Budget needs to be made available to the public for review for 30 or more days. At the June Board of Education Meeting, the Board will conduct a Public Hearing and be asked to take action on the recommended Amended Budget. moved and seconded a motion to approve the Board to give Public Notice of the Tentative Amended Fiscal Year 2017 Budget as presented. BOARD MEMBER REMARKS thanked Coach Katie Doyle for her excellent coaching of the Cass Junior High School Girl s Soccer Team this season and Coach Ken Kohnke the same for the Boy s Soccer Team. BOARD SECRETARY ANNOUNCEMENTS/CORRESPONDENCE The next Regular Board of Education Meeting is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 in the District Community Room. The next Finance Committee Meeting is scheduled for Monday, June 12, 2017 at 6:00 p.m. in the District Community Room. The District received a thank you letter from Teacher Angela Zurawski.
