NOTICE TO ACTIVE, FELLOW AND LIFE MEMBERS Constitution and Bylaws Amendments Before the 2005 General Assembly The subsequent proposed changes to the Constitution and Bylaws were prepared by the Council on Constitution and Bylaws under 2004-05 council charges from the board of trustees, and subsequent review by the board. These will be reviewed at the Reference Committee hearings and the General Assembly in Orlando. Note to readers: All line numbers reference the current AAPD Constitution and Bylaws as printed in the 2005 Membership Directory. The following is divided into two columns. The left column is the Constitution and Bylaws in its current form. The right column contains the proposed changes. Strikethrough words are to be removed; highlighted words are to be added to the Constitution and Bylaws. Charge 1: Propose revision to the Bylaws (Chapter VI, Sections 4.A. and 4.B. and/or whatever other sections may apply) to clarify the membership categories in which one must maintain membership in the respective state units and district organizations. 891 A. Active members of five(5) or more consecutive years who 139 submit to Headquarters Office for its approval: i) a publica- 140 tion, as first author, and ii)documentation of a presentation of 141 an oral or poster research abstract, as first author, at a na- 142 tional or international meeting (time spent in advanced training 143 in pediatric dentistry approved by the Commission on Dental 144 Accreditation, American Dental Association may be credited 145 toward fulfillment of the five(5) year requirement. 146 3. Active members who become Diplomates of the American 147 Board of Pediatric Dentistry, or its equivalent in foreign coun- 148 tries, shall be elevated to Fellow, upon approval by the Creden- 149 tials and Ethics Committee. 150 4. Diplomates of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry, or 151 its equivalent in foreign countries, who are not Active members 152 of the Academy, may be eligible for Fellowship, providing they 153 submit an application for membership in the required manner as 154 set forth in Chapter 1, Section 4, subject to approval by the Cre- 155 dentials and Ethics Committee. 156 Elevation to Fellow shall be considered permanent membership 157 in that category, with all rights and privileges attendant 158 thereto, providing the member continues to fulfill the require- 159 ments set forth in Chapter 1, Section 2, A and Chapter X Sec- 160 tions 1,2,3,and 4. 161 C. INTERNATIONAL: This category of membership is 162 available as an option for all pediatric dentists who meet the 163 qualifications established for Active membership as outlined in 164 Chapter 1,Section 2,A (with the exception of those pediatric 165 dentists in the federal services) who practice, teach, or do re 166 search outside of the United States while also living outside the 167 United States. 161 C. INTERNATIONAL: This category of membership is 162 available as an option for all pediatric dentists who meet the 163 qualifications established for Active membership as outlined in 164 Chapter 1,Section 2,A (with the exception of those pediatric 165 dentists in the federal services) who practice, teach, or do re- 166 search outside of the United States while also living outside the 167 United States. 161 C. INTERNATIONAL: This category of membership is 162 available to dentists living and practicing, teaching, or 163 conducting research outside of the United States or 164 Canada who maintain membership in a foreign dental 165 association. Educationally-qualified pediatric dentists, 165 except those in the Federal Services, otherwise 166 eligible for Active membership who live and practice, 167 teach, or conduct research outside of the United States or 168 Canada are also eligible for this membership category, although 169 without the privileges of Active membership. 14 168 D. LIFE: This category of membership is available to Active 169 Fellow, and Retired members who have been members in good 170 standing for twenty (20) consecutive years or for a total of 171 twenty-five (25) years as an Active, Fellow, or Retired member, 172 have reached the age of sixty-five (65) years, continue to fulfill 173 the provisions set forth in Chapter I, Section 2, and have paid 174 dues and assessments through the calendar year in which ap- 168 D. ALLIED: This category of membership is available 233 to dental and medical allied health professionals, including 234 dental hygienists, dental assistants, pediatric nurses, and 235 physician assistants, whose interests are consistent with the mission of the Academy. 235 L. FRIENDS OF PEDIATRIC DENTISTRY: This 236 category of membership is available to any individual 237 who does not qualify for other AAPD membership 238 categories but whose interests are consistent with the 239 mission of the Academy. 234 K.
