COUNCIL OF THE HAIDA NATION ELECTION 2018 INFORMATION FOR VOTERS TO ALL HAIDA CITIZENS Dear Voter, The Council of the Haida Nation adopted the new CHN Election Act at the 2017 Annual House of Assembly. This notice includes some info to help you prepare for voting day. The Advance Poll is on November 24, 2018. Election Day is December 1, 2018. The Second Notice of Election is attached with details on how and where to vote. This year s election will also be followed by a by-election for 3 regional representatives in HlG aagilda Skidegate on December 22. Skidegate voters will come to the polls during the Advance Poll or on Election Day to vote for the President and Vice President positions only. They will then return to vote for the Skidegate Regional Representatives on by-election day. Only citizens who have identified HlG aagilda Skidegate as their voting region will be able to vote in the 2018 Skidegate by-election. KEY INFO: - All citizens are required to bring photo ID to the polling station. - The voters list for CHN elections is now generated by the CHN Citizenship Program. Haida citizens are invited to register with the Citizenship Program to add their name to the voters list. - Haida citizens who have not registered with the CHN Citizenship Program will be able to add their names to the voters list by submitting a completed Schedule K - Voter List Addition Form to the Regional Electoral Officer. The form is available from the Head Electoral Officer, Regional Electoral Officers, or from the CHN offices in G aw and HlG aagilda. They will also be available at the polling stations. You will need 2 registered voters to sign the form verifying your eligibility to vote. - For the 2018 Election only, citizens will select their voting region at the polling stations when they sign-in. This will be your voting region for all future elections, unless a change is submitted to the Head Electoral Officer 8 weeks prior to the next election. - A by-election for 3 Skidegate Regional Representatives will be held on December 22. - All citizens are invited to attend All-Candidates Forums to learn about each candidate.
