Re-Survey MWG Report to the BSHC 23 rd Conference in Aalborg,Denmark 1. Status of the work of Re-Survey MWG since BSHC 22 nd Conference, Rostock Mr. Seppo H Mäkinen [FI] has acted as the Chair. There is no permanent secretary for the MWG. Chair acted as the secretary of the MWG 16 th meeting and Anders Åkerberg [SE] for the 17 th meeting. All the BSHC countries have nominated members to the working group, however not all have been active or participated to the meetings. The main tasks for the MWG has been to continue the development of the Re-Survey database and to encourage the member states to continue the up-to-date surveys of their waters. The communication within the MWG has been by MWG Letters and e-mails. 17 th Meeting was held on 7 March 2018 at Clarion Hotel & Conference in Malmö, Sweden and 16 th Meeting was held on 11 November 2017 at BSH in Rostock, Germany and. 2. Monitoring Working Group meetings MWG 16 th meeting 21 September 2017 at BSH, Rostock, Germany The meeting was held right after BSHC22 conference. The main subject was to go through and discuss the BSHC22 decisions concerning MWG and to discuss the IHO S- 44 PT (HSPT) work. The status of the MS HELCOM re-surveys in Re-survey Database was also reviewed in conjunction with EU CEF funded FAMOS Odin project. The IHO S-44 ed 5 renewal scoping project team members Anders Åkerberg and Hans Öiås [SE] briefed on team s work. The task 1.7 to support IHO working groups and other European projects in issues concerning IHO S-44 and survey status was approved at BSHC22. Otherwise TORs of the MWG and the Work Programme for the years 2016-20 were found accurate. Upcoming meetings were listed in which MWG work is presented. Mr. Thomas Dehling [DE] resigned from the vice-chair position, having been elected as National Hydrographer for Germany. No vice-chair was elected. MWG 17 th meeting 7 March 2018 at Clarion Hotel & Conference, Malmö, Sweden MWG17 meeting was held in conjunction with FAMOS Odin mid-term conference. A regional S-44 PT regional discussion took place and the work of the IHO S-44 HSPT was briefed by the participants. Re-survey progress was presented by attending members and Re-Survey DB viewed online. Progress has taken place. Upcoming activities were listed. BSHC 23_MWG Report Page: 1 of 5 31 July 2018

3. Future Work of the MWG MWG will continue to monitor the progress of the re-surveys and follow Re-Survey Database development. It is of importance to have the database and interface operate reliably. Continue cooperation with FAMOS Odin concerning Re-Surveys in the Baltic Sea. Follow up HELCOM Head of Delegates outcome item 6.57 on the need of updating Resurvey plan and perform Re-surveys especially in areas in South-Eastern Baltic, where AIS-records show commercial shipping taking place and which areas are not nationally categorized as HELCOM cat I or cat II areas. HELCOM MARITIME Safe Nav 8 meeting on 28 Sept in Arlanda, Sweden. Continue cooperation and information exchange with NSHC. Continue communication with relevant organisations and inform users by giving presentations and participating in relevant conferences, such as HELCOM Maritime and EU BSRS PA Safe Steering Committee (as having a Flagship status within EU). HELCOM SAFE NAV 9 meeting will be held in Copenhagen on 7 Sept 2018 and HELCOM MARITIME 18 will be held in Hamburg 25-27 Sept, 2018. To activate all the member states to send representatives to MWG meetings. The MWG has it s next meeting on Monday 27 th August 2018 at Geodatastyrelsen in, back-to-back with BSHC23 conference. 4. The results of the MWG during 2017-2018 Presentations were given by MWG members as planned in following meetings: Reporting to HELCOM MARITIME 17/2017 (November 2017 in St. Petersburg, Russian Federation) Reporting to EUSBSR PA SAFE Steering Committee meeting (EU Strategy of the Baltic sea Region, 6 June 2018) In Tallinn, Estonia. BSHC22 task 14: All MS to carry out hydrographic surveys and update HELCOM resurvey database. Poland and Kaliningrad Oblast to evaluate the possibility to upgrade the priority shipping routes with the help of commercial SOLAS shipping AIS data. Chair has brought the item up in presentations at HELCOM MARITIME 17 and at EU SBSR PA Safe meeting. No progress to report. Some samples of AIS statistical data from SMA [SE] is in waiting in order to analyze the SOLAS traffic in the South-East corner of the Baltic Sea. BSHC 23_MWG Report Page: 2 of 5 31 July 2018

5. Actions for the BSHC 22 nd Conference The BSHC 23 rd Conference is requested to 1. note this Report 2. encourage member states to study and define Cat I & II areas in their waters based on the existing AIS-information on commercial shipping 3. encourage member states to perform re-surveys in areas of commercial shipping 4. encourage member states to participate actively to MWG work 5. give further guidance to MWG, as seen appropriate Annexes: 1. Annex 1 to the MWG Report MWG Work Programme for 2016-2020 [Version 8, approved on 20 Sept 2017 at BSHC22] MWG Tasks: [based on MWG TORs as approved by BSHC 13 th Conference, 20 August 2008]: 1.1 To maintain the Baltic Sea Harmonised Re-survey Scheme 1.2 To maintain the re-survey metadata database 1.3 To monitor the progress of the execution of the Harmonised Re-Survey Scheme 1.4 To identify possible problems and propose solutions or workarounds to them 1.5 To specify and propose updates and changes to the Harmonised Re-Survey Scheme 1.6 To liaise with national Maritime Administrations, HELCOM Secretariat, and other relevant organisations. 1.7 To support IHO working groups and other European projects in issues concerning IHO S-44 and survey status. Any official decisions shall be brought to BSHC Conference be decided. 1.8 The MWG should report to the BSHC at least once a year. Tasks for 2017-2020: No Task Resp.
