PETITIONS & DELEGATIONS Elk Valley Seniors Housing Society - Lilac Terrace Partnership Opportunity Presenters: Cyndi Lyle, Secretary and Robert Burritt, President Page 1 of 8
Ms. Cyndi Lyle introduced the Society and explained that it operates the Lilac Terrace home in Sparwood. The Society has been in existence since 2001 and the Lilac Terrace has been full for the past 12 years. In 2013 the Society applied for funding for 12 additional units including 2 palliative care units. There is an opportunity to add 2 more units to the building for a total of 14. The Society does not yet have all the funds secured for the project, and to add the additional units they are requesting funding from the District of Elkford. This funding is hoped to go towards the two additional units. The Society would be happy to offer senior housing to Elkford residents, as required. Ms. Lyle explained that there is a time constraint to decide by the next day if the two additional units would be added. The Society was hoping to receive an indication from Council if Elkford would provide funding for the project. Council requested more information from the delegation about expected assistance and funding to-date. This information will be provided to Council via e-mail. (b) Elkford Early Years Committee - "Tee Off for Tots" Golf Tournament Presenter: Jennifer Cherney Ms. Jennifer Cherney represented Elkford Early Years Committee. In her presentation she talked about: History of the Committee; Vision; Mission; Funders; Programming in Elkford; Events; Access to Information; Partnerships; and Initiatives. Ms. Cherney invited the District to enter a golf team to the "Tee Off for Tots" golf tournament, which is their main fundraising event of the year. UNFINISHED BUSINESS None. MAYOR AND COUNCILLORS' REPORTS & COMMITTEE BUSINESS Councillor Wildeman Attendance at Meetings March 25 - Forestry and Land Management. Also in attendance Mayors of Sparwood and Fernie and some of their staff. A workshop to explore our readiness to market lands within our District. April 4&5 - RDEK meetings in Cranbrook. April 14 - MIABC conference call. (b) Councillor McGregor Public Library Attended the Public Library meeting. New volunteer treasurer stepped in. (c) Councillor Robinson Resident Concerns Dog excrement a problem in town. Requested more bags to be distributed, more enforcement and advertising. Councillor Fairbairn commented that cats roaming free, hunting birds and leaving their feces are a problem. (d) Nicole Klein, Junior Council Youth Representative Attendance at Event April 8&14 - SQX Danza group had a dance presentation at the Secondary School, with warm ups, skipping and other activities for the students. This event was well received as the school does not get much exposure to arts and culture. (e) Taylor Wurmlinger, Senior Council Youth Representative Attendance at Events April 4&7 - volunteered at Mine Rescue First Aid. April 12 weekend - Fernie festival. Page 6 of 8
May 2 - Rock-A-Rama at the Secondary School. Judges needed. Councillor McLean and the Chief Administrative Officer volunteered. Attendance at Meeting April 14 - deer relocation. Columbia Basin Trust hired a consultant to conduct the project. Program is initiated and will involve Invermere, Cranbrook, Kimberley, and Elkford.
