If you vote in the election, when do you think you will post back your ballot? Which of the two candidates you think would do more to boost the Conservatives chances of winning the next general election? David Cameron 64 64 64 96 13 David Davis 19 21 17 1 66 Don t know 17 15 19 3 21 One of the candidates has promised that, if he became Prime Minister, he would cut the tax bill of the average family by 1,200 a year. The same candidate says he is confident that the faster economic growth that would result would mean that the cut in taxes would not have to be accompanied by cuts in essential services. Do you believe the Conservative Party should, or should not, promise to make such a cut? Yes, it should 43 42 43 24 78 No, it shouldn t 48 48 48 65 17 Don t know 9 10 9 11 4 One of the candidates has insisted it would not be sensible for the Conservatives to put forward detailed tax-cutting or other policy proposals four years in advance of the next election. In his view, the party should take time to consider its specific policies and wait until nearer the time of the election before announcing them. In your view, should the party...? Begin to announce its specific policies for the next election now 30 32 27 14 64 Wait till nearer the time of the election before announcing its policies 65 63 68 83 33 Don t know 5 5 5 3 4 5 2005 YouGov plc. All Rights Reserved www.yougov.com

As you probably know, when Gordon Brown first became Chancellor he removed the dividend tax credits for pension funds, thus depriving pension funds of roughly 5 billion each year. One of the leadership candidates has indicated that, if elected, he would give a high priority to finding a way of reversing Gordon Brown s decision. In your view, should the party...? Give high priority to restoring dividend tax credits for pension funds 74 73 75 71 78 Give higher priority to other ways of cutting taxes 18 18 19 20 19 Don t know 8 9 6 9 3 At the last election the party s manifesto pledged that a Conservative government would reimburse patients who chose to have an operation in a private hospital with a substantial part of the cost of their operation. One of the leadership candidates says the party should drop this policy because it implied that the Conservatives wanted to subsidise the health care of the well-off, thereby sending the wrong signal to voters. Do you think this particular policy should be dropped or not? Yes, it should be dropped 38 41 34 42 26 No, it shouldn t 45 39 52 40 57 Don t know 18 20 15 18 17 Finally, if you vote in the election, which of the two candidates do you think you will vote for? David Cameron 57 56 59 100 0 David Davis 27 30 22 0 100 I am probably not going to vote 1 0 2 0 0 Don t know 15 14 16 0 0 Candidate support excl don't knows, won't votes David Cameron 68 65 72 100 0 David Davis 32 35 27 0 100 6 2005 YouGov plc.
