PUBLIC COMMENTS ARE WELCOME The Santa Barbara County SELPA Community Advisory Committee (CAC) will receive public comments about items appearing on today's agenda, as well as other matters within the subject matter jurisdiction of the CAC. All such comments will be received during the Public Comments section of the agenda. Individuals who address the CAC are limited to three (3) minutes to speak on any item and a total of 10 minutes on all items for their presentation. The CAC may limit the total time for all public comment to 30 minutes. Persons needing additional time are requested to submit the information in writing. For comments concerning matters not on the agenda, open meeting laws and fairness to other residents who may have an interest in your topic prohibit the CAC from taking action or engaging in extended discussion of your concerns. The CAC may direct staff to meet at a later date with speakers who have specific concerns or needs. The CAC may also direct that an issue be placed on a future agenda for discussion and consideration. This permits the CAC and staff members to prepare and receive necessary information and for the public to be aware that a topic is being formally considered. We appreciate your cooperation. Forms are available from the SELPA Coordinator for requests to address the CAC. CAC MEETING MINUTES December 1, 2017 V. ITEMS SCHEDULED FOR INFORMATION/ DISCUSSION /ADVISEMENT A. Brown Act Education CAC is governed by the Brown Act, thus CAC Committee Chair, Michelle Wright, reviewed the basics of the Brown Act requirements and meeting decorum. B. CAC Composition of Membership The Santa Barbarba County SELPA Local Plan delineates the CAC membership guidelines. This information was reviewed with the committee. C. Review of CAC Membership/Demographics Current committee membership demographic information was reviewed and corrected. Blochman, Guadalupe, Lompoc, SBUSD, Santa Maria-Bonita and Santa Maria Joint Uniion High School District need parent representatives. The committee is still in need of an a North County and SBCEO professional representatives. D. CAC Role and Purpose The Santa Barbarba County SELPA Local Plan delineates the CAC members role and purpose. This information was reviewed with the committee. E. Disseminate/explain mileage reimbursement form Due by April Meeting SBCSELPA mileage reimbursement form was reviewed. Mileage rate for 2017 is $0.535 per mile. Committee members must submit mileage reimbursement by the April CAC meeting to receive reimbursement for travel to and from 2017-2018 CAC meetings and events. F. CAC Brochure and Informational Flyer The brochure and flyer were reviewed. Committee members can find the brochure and flyer on the Santa Barbara County SELPA website. Members were encouraged to share this information will their respective districts and request this information be posted on the district websites. G. Elections of Chair and Vice-Chair The Committee voted and Becca Wrench, South County Professional Representative, was elected Chair of the committee and Andrea Krautmann, SBCEO Parent Representative, was elected Vice- Chair. The Chair and Vice-Chair are elected for a calendar year. H. CAC Focus for 2017-2018 The Committee discussed how to proceed with the Facebook page which was established by last years CAC members. The Committee agreed to add a link to the CAC Facebook page in the CAC brochure. A link will also be added to the SELPA website. The Committee agrees that awareness needs to be raised about CAC and this can be down through growing the Facebook page as well as posting links on district websites. Committee members also agreed to talk with their respective districts about getting CAC information out through other school resources such as Parent Square. CAC would like to host parent workshops during the 2018-2019 school year. The committee will start to plan for these workshops. VI. MISCELLANEOUS AGENDA ITEMS A. CAC MEETING MINUTES December 1, 2017 Lompoc Unified School District Co-Teaching Continues! o Michelle Wright shared that co-teaching is currently occurring in English, Math, and Science Classes. Although Co-teaching is like a marriage, so the teachers chosen to work together need to also have a good working relationship. Overall, progress is being made and the students and teachers are benefitting from Coteaching. Adult Transition Program o Ashley Schroff shared information about the Lompoc Adult Transition Program. She showed pictures of the class volunteering at Jim s Closet in Lompoc. There is a lot of exciting learning activities and community involvement for the students in the class. C.
