000927 at 4:00 p.m. in the Matsqui Centennial Auditorium Page 9 8. NEW BUSINESS.1 Volvo Trucks of Vancouver - Tender (1220-20/179) Ross that, as recommended in Report No. FIN 96-59 dated November 21, 1996, from the Purchasing Manager, the tender from Volvo Trucks of Vancouver be accepted for the supply and delivery of one 58,000 G.V.W. diesel truck chassis with 13-yard tandem axle, and one 58,000 G.V.W. diesel truck chassis with 14-yard tandem axle, for a total delivered price of $268,991.96. In response to concerns from Council, the Director of Engineering indicated that Volvo parts are readily available, and that it is not uncommon for the City to send major equipment to Vancouver for maintenance and repairs. He noted that the vehicles were originally budgeted for in 1995, based on 1994 estimates, and that the current prices reflect increases to 1997. Also, snow removal on Sumas Mountain requires the additional cost for a larger engine, ABS brakes, and a combination dumpboxl sander. The expenditure will be funded by the Equipment Replacement Program. The comment was made that the City should lease vehicles or hire local operators for snow removal and roadworks, rather than purchase new vehicles. The motion was then put and R796-96 CARRIED. Opposed: Councillor Funk 2 Recognition - Councillors Boyes, Funk, Robertson, and Sweeney Mayor Ferguson expressed appreciation to Councillors Boyes, Funk, Robertson, and Sweeney for their years of service on Council, and commended them for their achievements in the community.
