Moundsville West Virginia The Marshall County Board of Education met in regular session Tuesday,, 7:00 p.m., at Sherrard Middle School, all members having been notified of business to be considered. Present were: President Beth A. Phillips, Vice President Thomas E. Gilbert, Jr., Members Lori E. Kestner, John Miller, Dr. Duane Miller; Secretary Michael Hince, Members of the County Administrative Staff. Center McMechen Principal, Arica Holt, spoke to the Board on behalf of the Local School Improvement Council. Mrs. Holt highlighted the improvements of the school and noted this was the first year she felt she and the staff were on board with the same goals. She also discussed needs of the school and things she foreseen in the next few years, including a multi-purpose room. She also highlighted their improvement on state testing. Sherrard Middle School Principal, Jason Marling, spoke to the Board on behalf of the Local School Improvement Council. Mr. Marling reviewed test scores for SMS and their improvement. The school earned a B rating by the state. He emphasized how he and the staff are not satisfied with that rating, and feels they can do better and should be an A school. He highlighted some of the new programs including a new PBIS for students, improvements that were made in their STEM classes and Maker Lab. Mr. Marling stated the need of outside lighting and also adding a second doorway in one of the classroom to allow easier access. Motion carried. Motion by Vice President Gilbert, and seconded by Mrs. Kestner, that the Board approve the Budget Revisions FY17. Motion carried. Motion by Vice President Gilbert, and seconded by Mrs. Kestner, that the Board approve the Student Teacher Agreement between West Virginia University and Marshall County Board of Education. Motion carried. Motion by Dr. Duane Miller, and seconded by Vice President Gilbert, that the Board approve the Memorandum of Understanding between Marshall County Schools and National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI). Motion carried. Motion by Mr. Miller, and seconded by Vice President Gilbert, that the Board approve the submitted Individual Personalized Education Plan. Motion carried.
